Hey guys,

Has anyone done a passport renewal recently? I need to do mine and wondering how long the turn around roughly is as I need to see family in Germany. TIA

How long it takes
Because of coronavirus (COVID-19), it takes up to 6 weeks to get a passport if you apply online. It takes longer if you apply by post.

You may be able to get a passport urgently to travel for compassionate reasons or work, or to prove your identity.

Do not book travel until you have a valid passport - your new passport will not have the same number as your old one.

Family member Got a brand new passport (first application) within a week, Arrived the other day

I applied start of June, took 10 days from applying and sending my old passport to receiving my new.

Both my sister and I applied for renewal in June and my parents in July. I received mine no issues in about 10 days (that includes the time having to send off my old one).

My parents and sisters took a little longer, closer to the 3 weeks recommend time allowance.

Mine got sent to Glasgow and was very efficient.

No harm in sending off for it, just be conscious that it could take longer

I renewed my daughter's and took 8 days start to finish (online application) had lots of texts/emails warning of delays due to COVID though so be prepared for that
