my go to is usually, if I can't pair the item with at least 2 other items plus shoes then get rid (besides things like dresses or special occasion clothes) I also get rid of it if I like but it don't wear it often cause it needs ironing and I cba to iron it.
I start chucking away clothes that need ironing too 🤦🏼‍♀️

Any thing that you have not worn for 12 months, get rid of.

Anything that you are keeping in case you fit back into it, get rid of it.

I have things that are 10 years old but I do wear them.

Oh god most of my wardrobe is "I'll just lose a bit of weight" 😂

In terms of keeping things in the hopes you'll lose weight - I have done this before and I did lose weight and guess what ... I wanted nice, new clothes instead! I think this happens with lots of people who lose weight.

But regardless, its a sort of unnecessary pressure keeping around things that you might not fit into. You don't need that negativity in your life! I'm the type of person now if I wear something out of the house and spend all day feeling self conscious or uncomfortable in it, I set it aside for donation.

Also every Jan 1st, whenever I wear something I put it back on the right hand side. Then throughout the year I can see what I wear frequently versus what I don't wear often and decide what to do with it (within reason obviously)

So have taken your fabulous advice and my wardrobe now looks grown up and clutter free. ❤ I've been brutal and really it's done nothing but make me feel positive and happy.
I've chucked old bikinis and tiny clubbing skirts from circa 2013....I've kept a pair of jeans and a few items which I'm too big for but I'm using as motivation to lose weight

I think the easiest way is to start with items that have holes/stains, then move to don't fit (no point putting pressure on yourself to shed the weight), then the I will def wear it again (items that may be a bit tight but still fit). And the rest will follow... You got this! 🧚‍♀️

Well done you. Good to clear the decks and to be left with clothes you like and enjoy wearing.
I have managed to sell quite a few items which I've had for years but don't wear. I'm trying to work out why and to avoid making those mistakes again. It's so good to have more space and to be left with wearable clothes.

I’m currently decluttering my wardrobe slowly. I work odd hours and have a little one so just wear casual clothes both to work and home. I know what I like but I end up with duplicates 😂

I’ve got rid of 8 pairs of jeans, leaving me with 2 which are the same style (Levi’s 501 in 2 colours)
Two old hoodies leaving me with 3
Sold 3 pairs of lulu lemon leggings on Vinted
Sold a bundle of Uniqlo T-shirts because I had 15 (!!!)

Remove everything from your wardrobe and place it into a massive pile. Then make three piles - keep/donate/throw away. Then go through each item individually and ask yourself if you like and enjoy the item (if not, get rid), whether it fits/is comfortable/makes you feel good about yourself (if not, get rid) and if you’ve worn it recently (if not, get rid). You need to be brutal! Then with the three piles you can put what you’re keeping back in the wardrobe and see what staples you’re missing. If you want to be super organised you could sort it by coats/jackets/t-shirts and colour order everything. Hope that helps!

I did this recently when I was coming back to the UK with just one large suitcase, a backpack and another smaller travel case.

Marie Kondo was my inspiration. Pick each item and ask yourself if it sparks joy. Keep it if it does. Thank it and let it go if it doesn't.

From other minimalism channels I watched on youtube:

1. It's okay to go slow. You don't have to do it all in one day. Just make a start. I didn't expect how emotional I would get getting rid of things and don't be hasty with the items you're not 100% set on.
2. I took photos of whatever I gave away.
3. I didn't keep anything that doesn't fit the current size I am now.

Despite having a full wardrobe I am guilty of wearing a handful of clothes constantly. So am going to put on one side of the wardrobe the clothes I have just washed and not use them again until the other side is empty.

So I just finished putting worn clothes back in one side of the wardrobe (don't judge, I have a lot of tops!).

Really good exercise, I have worn tops that for some reason I never wear.
Am going to keep rotating my tops like this.

Thank you x

I don't think you should get rid of things just because you haven't worn them in X years.

A good rule of thumb is: If it isn't a "HELL YEAH!" then it's a "NO!"

I am moving soon (from a house to a flat!) and over the last couple of months I have given huge bags of clothes to charity and felt really good about it. The trouble is, I still have a lot left but even though I haven't worn some items for years I still can't bring myself to get rid of them.

Part of it is that if I were to buy it new again it would be so expensive - but really I doubt that I would buy it again now. My lifestyle has changed a lot. I no longer go out so much in the evenings and don't need tailored clothes which need dry cleaning. Shoes are the worst thing to get rid of as I love them - even if they are so high that they can only be worn for a few hours.

I am full of awe that people get rid of clothes that they've not worn for a year. I have stuff which is over 20 years old. I love a bargain, eBay and rooting around in sample sales. This is probably the issue as in this way I accumulate so many clothes.

I have sold a lot on eBay in the past but it really is difficult now as eBay has skewed the marketplace to the buyers' advantage and there are some that take total advantage of this - e.g. saying that they have not received the item, or that it is damaged or not as stated - and demand a refund.

I really must bite the bullet but it is a painful and deeply unpleasant experience.

Thanks for the tips here and the assurance that you feel lighter and liberated afterwards.

See if you can sell some of what you don't wear on ebay or vinted. It might be easier to get rid of things if you're making money
