Looking for some advice about opening a personal pension please!

I can afford to save around £100 per month into a personal pension account. I’m 28 and would like to start saving for my retirement - I’m currently a PhD student so I’m not part of a workplace pension.

Has anyone got any recommendations for pension accounts? The one I’m looking at currently is with Aviva.

Thank you!

Hi there. I actually asked our financial guy about this last week when he was out with us. He always recommends virgin (who my husband is with), or he did recommend legal and general this time as well. He didn’t mention aviva, even though the reason for his visit was to swap us to aviva life insurance, so I’m assuming it isn’t as good as the other two. IIRC Virgin aren’t taking new pensions on atm (although that could have changed since I last looked) so L&G possibly your best bet.

ETA: looks like virgin are open for pensions again so I will be going with them. I have a workplace pension with the education board, but I work sporadically around my kids and have been on maternity a lot over the last 8 years so I want to ensure I have a decent private pension as well.
