I just saw that Christopher Plummer has died at 91. So sad. Growing up, I loved The Sound of Music. I think he was my first fancy 🥰 (alongside cartoon Aladdin). Lol.
It got me thinking about old movies and musicals. What were some of your favourites? Also, can we protect Julie Andrews at all costs? It will be a very sad day when she dies.

I love a lot of old movies and I’ve been making an effort to watch more of them (ones I haven’t seen) recently.

Not a musical, and admittedly very melodramatic, but my favourite is Brief Encounter.

As for musicals, The Sound Of Music probably does top it. Christopher Plummer will be missed.

I too love The Sound of Music. Other classics I love not yet mentioned include Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Rebecca (Hitchcock version), The Wizard of Oz, Born Yesterday (Judy Holliday version), A Streetcar Named Desire, Mary Poppins, Cleopatra, I Married A Witch...

I am really passionate about classic films. I could talk about them all day.

I always thought the Bob Hope movies were funny....I've always loved the Cat & the Canary. Love Doris Day movies too especially the ones she did with Rock Hudson. Musicals I love are West side story, Showboat, White Christmas, Singing in the Rain. So sad to hear about Christopher Plummer ☹

Alfred Hitchcock films - Doris Day was in the remake of "The man who knew too much", with James Stewart. Not one of Hitchcock's best films, but it was great to see Doris in a dramatic role.
Hammer Horror films.
Musicals.
I'll return to this thread.

Love so many old movies and musicals. They don’t make them like they used to.

Calamity Jane
Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
South Pacific
Guys and Dolls
Meet me in St.Louis
Wizard of Oz
Gone With the Wind
Singin’ in the Rain
Hitchcock movies (Rear Window, The Birds, Psycho etc).
Angels With Dirty Faces (love James Cagney).
Carousel
Sound of Music

That’s all I can think of, off the top of my head. There’s many more.

The Jolson Story

The Red Shoes (1948). Moira Shearer is divine, I loved the ballet sequence. Did you know that it’s Martin Scorcese’s favourite movie?

This us my favourite film of all time. The story is so good. James Stewart was just brilliant, i couldn't see anyone else in that role. And to think it wasn't a hit when it first came out!
