Noisy Neighbours: SS?

I reported a family in my street to S.S during lockdown. All you could hear is the child screaming and crying, the parents arguing and the kid begging them stop. I never heard back from S.S but I'm guessing they have spoken to the family as all windows are now shut all the time which just makes me paranoid that I've made a situation worse for the little one! I don't think there's any right thing to as a neighbour when the services are as stretched and limited as they are now.

Good evening.
After what feels like a lifetime, the neighbours children have gone inside. We live in a small estate so we have seven houses around us. To our right we have a house with two children (boys ages 3 & 1) who are screaming & crying daily.

Not that I am one to be nosey, I was upstairs pottering around to see the parents had left them unattended. The parents were inside & the screaming was ear piercing.

I stayed for what seem like 5 minutes by my window & I saw the 3 year old visibly hurt the youngest. By means throw a car to him & push him over. The parents didn’t come out the house once.

It was only when the youngest crawled to the door tapping on the glass did the mum come out and I heard her say “oh for god sake what now?!”

It has surprised me & shocked me how a parent can be like this to there child.

But, am I in the wrong for spying? Should I have acted? I don’t know but I just couldn’t believe what was happening in front of me.

You’re not in the wrong for ‘spying’ I’ve done the same when I’ve heard a domestic abuse incident across the road from us and the ex shouting abuse and trying to break down her door. I called police right away.

With the whole lockdown/ pandemic people are at their wits end and struggling. Do you know the family or have any further context? Ie are the parents trying to work from home and trying to parent the children?

If you have concerns you can make an anonymous report online at the NSPCC and they will share with social care to look into further. At the very least they will receive a call (the parents) And it might make them think twice about leaving the children unsupervised at those ages for periods of time or think about what further support the family might need.

I lived beside neighbours like that and I swear I used to watch the neighbiyrs kids more than i did my own or rather listen they were just little c,,,, I would never call a child that but one stage I felt sorry for them coz the mother was spending 2 much time gettin her lips pumped to bother watch them I would get more sense from the wall when I talked to the mother like I wasnt saying it in a mean way but u just no sometimes theres no talking to this type of parent where as I'm now moved I wont even let my kids call each when one upstairs/ downstairs even if I think they're being 2 loud out the back il tell them 2 be a lil quieter as its just respect at the end of the day for neighbours sorry that seemes a bit of a rant
