Well what a day, after being told we were basically on our own and to appeal, after me tweeting the council, the local press and my MP, emailing the senior managers and head of the council.... We got a phone call yesterday, very apologetic, the computer system hadn't picked up that my daughter is at a feeder school for our second choice, so they have offered her a place there. A complaint is going in about how it was handled, but I'm just relieved she has a place now!

We applied on time, got email confirmation, put catchment school first, then another 2 sensible choices. Our LA only let you put 3 options.

We did not receive an email with school allocation, we had to log into the council portal to find out our DC is on the waiting list for all three schools with no other offer of a place.

I am on hold to the council but I don't even have a reference number to check where we are on the list because it was on the email - which we didn't get.

What can I do?

I would ask for a chat with the head of your child's junior school. They will know the criteria and hopefully be able to advise. I believe its distance over siblings now. Then religion or pupil premium.

Hope you're okay, very poor admin on their part with the e mail.

There should be an appeal process. Look into what you need to follow to prepare an appeal. Often it is proving that allowing a extra pupil into an over - subscribed year group will cause less harm than making your child attend another school.

Sometimes people do try to change school from the one they have been offered , so you may still get a place from being on the waiting

Good luck .

This happened to one of my daughters, just a thought, but her email had gone into her junk file x

Is it possible to remain on the wait list until a place comes through, and do home schooling in the meantime?

Glad it’s sorted but I thought legally they had to offer you a place somewhere anyway - they can’t not offer your child a school place
