I've never fell for the praise of sturgeon during covid, her communication has been much better than Johnson. But she had the very enviable position of being included in private UK meetings and then running away to use this information to her own diversive gain. The actual results show she's done no better. But anything that ever goes wrong is Westminster's fault and anything that goes well she takes the credit for.

Let’s hope Salmond proves she broke ministerial code and she has to resign....I live in hope 🙏🏻

I don't know much about politics but I detest Sturgeon and her super injunctions and hypocrisy over wanting independence from the union and yet wanting to remain with the EU. Will she give Scottish voters a referendum regarding the EU should Scotland win independence from England?

Assuming she did I imagine it would be has heavily in the remain camp as last time. Scotland is happy to be in the EU.

Been hoping a thread might pop up for this lot! I’m definitely not Nicola’s number one fan and never voted SNP, but I agree she came across well at press conferences during COVID until we all realised she was just trying to out do England and jumping in front of Boris. Heating more and more people turning on her lately though 🙏🏼

Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU, so why would she do that?

Scotland is happy to be in the EU.
I think it's risky making assumptions like that and treating a country as one amalgamation. The vote was 62% to 38% with 1/3rd not bothering to vote in 2016. Wouldn't take much to swing that into 45% 55% territory. Nicola was another one saying how awful it was the UK left the EU because they wouldn't be part of the EU vaccine programme wasn't she?

Been hoping a thread might pop up for this lot!
I've been thinking about it for a while, but thought with recent events it's needed. It's all pretty tribal but hopefully we can have a sensible discussion on this - we manage to on the Johnson and Trump threads.

Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU, so why would she do that?
To use her own words, maybe "because it's materially changed since the last vote"?

But will Scotland meet the EU membership criteria should it get independence from GB? Turkey have been trying to apply for membership for years. So I would imagine Scotland will have to go through the same membership process, which again might take years

Can see this thread ending up in arguments because if there’s any snp voters and diehard sturgeon fans that see this they will be livid, they are absolutely unbearable and cult-like if anyone questions the snp. I’m Scottish and always lived here, know many people who are pro independence and they are all the same, and I know quite a few that voted for brexit because you know, independence?! But that tune quickly changed when it didn’t suit anymore 🙄 don’t know what it will take to vote them out of parliament, seems like too many people here who will just vote snp no matter what!
Hopefully we can have a conversation about this without it going into chaos with a bit of agree to disagree. I speak as someone who's family can't meet without an argument breaking out over it. Lot's of it runs so deep and people won't ever change their stance, which I get.

Edit: ah sorry I see you've deleted this since I quoted!

Yeah sorry, after I wrote it I actually thought I’ll probably come back to tattle tomorrow with 10 quote messages from the exact people Iv just written about, and I have had way too many arguments about it in real life, not something I need online too 😂

Yeah I'm a bit the same, generally I wouldn't post on a thread like this as little good comes from it. But things are a bit different with the hearing, maybe!?

It's not possible to have a political conversation with half my family, as they idolise Sturgeon and the SNP. And indeed Salmond, so recent events must have shaken them somewhat!
I think there's a number of good things the SNP have done, but they seem to inspire a cult like devotion, so their supporters attack anyone who looks at their policies with a critical eye. Not sure we have any decent alternatives in Scotland though ... I might be more inclined towards independence if it wasn't entirely driven by the SNP.

Thats the thing though - I am anti-Independence but voted SNP at the last election. As a natural Labour voter there was no way I was voting Corbin, have never voted Tory in my life (and never will), anyone else is a wasted vote. Until Labour get their act together and start behaving like an actual socialist party, I'm afraid the SNP are winners by default.

The Scottish Labour party are so bad I'm starting to think they are actually run by the SNP - its the only explanation.

So as someone who’s posting from Ireland and not personally invested in this...

ive enjoyed the Sky News commentary more than I should. 😂 I was pissed when they said the hearing was cancelled yesterday 😂 now Trump is out and Cummings is gone there’s not much scandal to work with so I’ll take anything.

Nicola reminds me of NY’s Cuomo, seems to be doing a great job, until you realise they’re more interested in getting one over the government (in thais case Boris) than anything else.
I don’t know enough about her to have a real opinion on her, and I should probably get my entertainment on Netflix at this point 😂

In the last 2 elections I have tactically voted against the SNP so voted Lib Dem, but snp win by a landslide in my constituency

SNP are like a cult, can't side with them over anything. If Sturgeon lied about Salmond to further own career, she should no longer have one. I'd say that's totally fair. And I'd definitely celebrate it because Sturgeon has really tested my patience with her handling of COVID, it's one thing to have measures to combat the virus but another to use them for her own political gain and to try and one-up other leaders in the UK when in a national emergency, politics and differences should have been put aside and it should have been a joint effort.

I don’t have much input but one thing that bugs me about Sturgeon is how unwelcoming she’s making Scotland seem. Is it just me? I know we shouldn’t be going there at the moment anyway, but even before, she made it seem like we’d be shot for going over the border! She’s changed the image I have of Scotland in my head like I’m just not welcome.

Not just you - she is not at all welcoming, especially not to English people. The subtle xenophobia in Scotland makes me want to leave at times.

Ive never voted SNP in my life and voted No in 2014.

Scottish Labour are buried now and Id never vote Conservative. I think Il have to tactically vote SNP in May as I'd not want a Tory MSP or Councillor

I don't really have any strong feelings either way about Nicola. Think religion plays a large part in whether people seem to idolise or detest her. In the area I live in anyway. Im an athiest and dont come from a background of either the 2 main religions in the West Coast of Scotland.

If she has to resign there will be someone else to take her place and I dont think it will reduce the SNPs popularity much tbh.

If Westminster can be dolling out contracts to there pals left right and centre and have as much scandal as they do and still coming up roses on all the You Gov surveys I reckon the SNP would do just fine without Sturgeon

We normally go to the Scottish Islands each year (obviously not last year and cancelled this years trip as well). But I have to admit from the vibe on the facebook groups of the places we go to I have got a massive 'Your not welcome' vibe.

I fully appreciate people are worried and we wouldn't go anyway until it is safe as it is wrong to risk taking covid to a place with limited resources but kind of feeling like they are tarring all visitors with the same brush as plenty have still been visiting.

Anyway suppose that is a different subject.
