A tip I have for an NHS or in fact any interview when they ask you how you would deal with a certain situation is to say you will familiarise yourself with and follow any policies and procedures in place and then you can add an example from your current role.

This really helped me when interviewing for an NHS post coming from a different sector and I got the job and I have just recently got an even better local government post. I do my research before an interview but it’s not possible to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of how to deal with every single situation so by saying you’ll familiarise yourself with the potential employers policies and procedures or for example, will act within your regulatory bodies (if the role has one) code of conduct etc then you highlight that you are aware these exist and will comply.

You’ll also need to know about referral pathways (what happens after referral), the process of referral (who can refer?), waiting times and what age do they receive referrals up to.

The questions will usually reflect what is essential from the person spec. They’ll likely ask a bit about your work background, why you’re interested in and suited to the role. I would imagine there will be a question about managing and prioritising workload in a busy, challenging environment. Something about managing stakeholders and their expectations.

Also we have a question about Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as standard on all our interview panels now.

Make sure you’re aware of the Trust values. Also helpful to know how they’re doing as an organisation - you can look up their latest CQC reviews on the CQC website. Good luck!

What soeciality is it for and will you be supervising band 3/2 admin

they will probs ask about 6 questions perhaps covering confidentiality, a scenario, what you would bring to the job , what made you apply for it, why are you suited to it. Maybe an in box excercise, typing test. Do a bit research on specialty or clinical area. If supervising staff they might ask how you would deal with a certain situation. Best of luck
