Does anyone else get an urge this time of year to completely change their life? Not necessarily a just New Years resolution, but the urge to lose weight, change your life, change your look...has anyone ever actually carried out their New Years goals? If so, how did you do it/keep it up?

I get the urge to change my life every new month but next year I HAVE to lose weight, and my New Years resolution is to take better care of my skin and hair x

I don't need to lose weight as I run long distances quite regularly. But I do have a drink problem, which I am determined to get on top of come the new year - which of course is easier said than done.

But there is no point in keeping fit if I'm just going to wreck my kidneys and other related internal organs.

So that will be my mission for 2021

I’m all about saving money and spending better next year.

I want to get a new job and pass my driving test. I’m already having lessons.

I’d like to move house too.

I’m having nobody in my life that causes issues, I’ve cut off so many people this year and I feel happier for it. Some people are only happy when you’re on your own or expect to walk in and out of my life. Not happening.. Bye.

I'm planning to start from now to try and enjoy what i have rather than missing what i don't have.

I realized that now that we have a serious problem as a family, that i never really had a worry-free time in my life. I'm always worried about something and tbh this is just wasting my life.

I just need to remind myself that right now i already have something beautiful in my life and appreciate it, while the things I'm missing can come later at their own time or not at all. There's just no point in worrying!

(Easier said than done but i should try🥲)

I hate New Years Eve and would happily be in bed asleep by 10 if hubby didn’t make me stay up. But I love New Years Day and the first few days of the new year. It always does feel like a fresh start and full of hope for me. This normally lasts about a week! In 2021 I’ve decided to make my mental health my priority. I’m having therapy and am working really hard at it, with homework in between sessions. My self esteem is incredibly low and making life very hard so trying to build it back up is going to be my life’s work next year I think. And also the usual getting back into shape!

Pass my driving test 100%. Maybe get a car but to finally be able to drive I’d be very happy with next year.

No men. No relationships. No dating. Still getting over a break-up and I’m focusing on myself, my PhD, my goals next year.

Save more than I spend. Not going to buy any clothes/make-up/beauty products that I don’t need (obviously I’ll buy deodorant/shower gel etc when it runs out) but no impulse purchases. Just when I need something or if I run out of something.

I'm like the rest of you, my big plan for 2021 is saving money:

- Get myself a job after being made redundant during the first lockdown
- Once I get a job, move back to my parents to properly save for a house (and it helps that I get along with my parents really well)
- Save money!!!! Not just for the house, but just for fun stuff like future holidays, and so I feel more secure instead of feeling like "the poor friend" all the time

I guess the other way I'd like to improve my life is to try and be more "myself" with new people... I joined a volleyball team at the end of 2019 and really enjoyed it for the few months we went before lockdown but I'm so quiet and awkward at training when I'm around people I don't know. I'd like to work hard and come out of my shell. I want to get invited to games and training camps when the pandemic passes, and just generally feel included!

For me 2021 will be about not taking life for granted and fully appreciate all the simple things in life.

Of course I'll be trying to get fit, eat better, drink less etc but ultimately I wanted to just enjoy all the things I previously took for granted.

It sounds really wanky but if you want to do something youl do it, a new year just brings pressure in my opinion and its already quite a depressing time of year.

If you want to do something dont wait until January, do it now if at all possible. Look at the shambles this year was!

I (involuntarily) stopped smoking almost two years ago (17th December) and as a result, have gained two stone in weight. I’m already dealing with it but will be ramping up my efforts come the new year. I’m fed up, feel sluggish etc., but have a multitude of health issues that will make things difficult. If there is one thing that 2020 has taught me though... always expect the unexpected!

I agree with this. I never make resolutions at NY because I know for a fact I won’t stick to them. January is the worst month for me mood-wise as it is without forcing myself to go on a diet or follow a serious exercise plan, or whatever. If I’m going to change my habits, I have to already have the willpower beforehand otherwise I will fall flat on my face. I tend to have more willpower come Spring, when there’s more daylight and I have an urge to be outdoors/have more energy to be productive. January is a real struggle.

I sort of agree that you don't need to wait til new year to make changes, but I think beforehand is so full on that it's easier to concentrate on them when things calm down.

All my goals are ongoing.

I'm going to try a work on managing my anxiety and keeping it under control.
Continue with my de-cluttering .
