Name label business ideas

I’m thinking of starting up a small name label business

mostly the name labels you stick into clothes for kids school items or stick on lunch boxes etc.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of machine I would need or any advice ?

Hi, you would need a cricut machine or similar, a decent printer and a computer (you could use your phone but designing stuff is far easier with a computer), plus then the various types of vinyl etc. Personally i would say the market is massively saturated and you will need to sell a lot of labels to make your money back, the most basic cricut is £179 before you even buy your tools, vinyls, transfer tapes, printer. I bought my cricut as a hobbyist, I'm a crafter and make my own cake toppers and then sell the odd label which I think I is common, the profit margins are not high on labels as you're selling such cheap items and thousands of people sell them, plus you can even get packs of the popular labels for bottles and jars etc in home bargains and the like for £1!

If you do decide to do it good luck, it's a great hobby and I've made lovely gifts with mine.

I wouldn’t bother. There’s a million other people doing the same thing and you’ll spend £100s on your cricut machine and products to get you started. My friend did it and had about five sales.

If you do want to do it see it as a hobby and hope for the odd sale but you won’t be booming unfortunately.

Seems like a very odd thing to want to start a business doing?! What made you want to go that?
can’t imagine this being particularly profitable, if this is all you’ll be selling. You can buy these labels cheap on Amazon, eBay etc - there’s millions of people selling these for dirt cheap, I’d think you’d seriously struggle to make any money at this.

Ah that's good then, I was going to say that I'm in loads of Cricut groups on line for sharing tips and info and there are people from literally all over the world in them so I do think that a lot of countries would be the same as the uk in terms of saturation.

I’m genuinely curious as to where this is in the world?! Somewhere that there would be a solid market for this but that the population doesn’t have access to an online marketplace like Amazon/eBay etc

My honest opinion don't bother. I'm not sure if there is enough money it to make it a viable business.

I’m not sure you’ll make much money on this either tbh, but only because the market is sooooo saturated now with every Tom fool and Harry thinking they can try it out for an easy profit. You‘d have to sell the stickers and labels for such a small price it would take aaaaages to make back the money on the equipment.

as a hobby, yeah go for it it sounds fun, less so as a business

If you enjoy designing and being creative I’d suggest maybe go into the freelance logo/branding design route.

I know a girl that does this who designs branding for small businesses. Everything she does in on Adobe Illustrator so she just needs a laptop and pays for the Adobe membership.

I second all the other comments regarding you can get personalised labels really cheaply from Amazon. But if it is something you have a real passion for then go for it but put your all into it.

Starting up a business is hard and can take a couple years to see viable profit. You also need to get a business plan, scope out and really research your target market demographics, know your competitors, costings, & get insurance.
