There’s a whole generation of them! I wouldn’t tell your sister as such, I would just tell him you won’t engage with him if he speaks to you a certain way. If your sister asks you why, be honest. They might accept that behaviour but you won’t.I love my 2 nephews but the eldest (8) is really horribly behaved. I spent Christmas with my sister and her family and when we left I cried because he was so vile. He speaks to everyone, especially his father, like shit, strops and stomps around and is always whinging. He is a lovely little boy but he's being ruined, partly because I think his parents don't believe in telling the kids off.
The younger (5) is showing signs of behaving the same way as N (shouting, stomping) but is still nice in many ways. N is just so rude and entitled I feel ashamed and whenever I remind him to say please, or ask him not to talk to me or anyone else that way, I get daggers from his parents. He eats whatever he wants despite him being overweight which is another worry as he's going to wind up diabetic and bullied.
I am close to my sister and BIL but I know children are a prickly subject with parents and telling them they're bringing them up badly would not go down well. I have no idea what to do although next time N speaks to me horribly I am going to tell him how he makes me feel and to hell with it. I shouldn't be brought to tears by a child's rudeness (they "talk to" him rather than telling him off, and then he half-heartedly apologises, but he doesn't mean it). Any advice gratefully received. I live a decent train ride away so don't see the boys often and don't want our time together to be marred by this.
Presumably he’s not like this at school?
