Music Plagiarism

Is it just me that feels it's a bit silly that people like Ed Sheeran are so easily targetted and used by somebody unknown and their management for promo? Because an "oh I" and "oh why" are a tad similar.

Judges have made such awful decisions about plagiarism over the last few years that it's really opened the door for abuse when there's nothing really new under the sun so songs that share some similarities are to be expected. Certain things are so generic they shouldn't be upheld.

I listened to the other guys song and they're nothing alike. The other guy seems to be trying his luck, but to call Ed things like "magpie" and so on is utter nonsense. Hope the judge sees sense. If it had genuinely been copied I would have had a different stance.

Katy Perry recently won an appeal where she was paying a ridiculous amount to some lesser known artist for similarities in a few notes for her song Dark Horse.

The flood gates really opened with the blurred lines case. Pharrell may have channeled the style of songs from an era, but theres a big diffence between that and copying. He shouldn't have lost that case. So often the song people say is copied isn't that original itself.

Gets crazy saying a certain artform has simar elements to something else and payment is owed. Imagine if that was applied to paintings?

Taylor Swift's team ended up giving credit to right said Fred for look what.. as it was kinda similar and they wanted to stop any case from cropping up in the wake of previous decisions. But they shouldn't have done imo.
