Moving from Copper coil to hormonal?

I have been thinking of changing my copper coil back to a hormonal coil but after reading some peoples experiences I am now questioning my choice.

I had a 2 marina coils back in 2008 either side of my first pregnancy. I then went on the implant after my 2nd, I then had it removed after an ovarian cyst was found and was bleeding for weeks (even on the pill at the same time). I had it removed and my cysts operated on. I then had a copper coil put in in late 2017. I never used to have issues with my periods but they are getting progressively worse and I miss the freedom of not having them as I swim a lot.

I have been booked in to have it replaced in early May, when I booked it in the nurse was surprised at my copper coil and made a comment about it not suitable for that long term which threw me. I should have questioned it but I was a bit taken back.

I have been reading about people experiencing weight gain and depression. Thinking back, I got my first coil just as I met me husband and was 11.5stone. Within a two years I had gained about 2 stone, and another 2 in the following 2 years. Was this just me being a pig (at uni, eating badly and drinking) or was it my contraception. I cannot gain any more weight and I am desperate to lose my last 3 stone and perhaps a bit more.

Do I just stick out the last 1.5 years of my copper coil and accept the periods getting worse or do I try the hormonal coil, they have said I will be getting the Liletta brand. One other issue with my current coil is the strings are really long and I have asked for them to be trim with no luck.

What are everyones experiences with the coil? Has anyone had a Liletta?

I have a copper coil. I chose it because I didn't want any artificial hormones. My coil is a long lasting one, it has to be removed after 10 years (I'm on year 5 at the moment).

I don't have any issues at all to be honest except maybe my periods are heavier so I'm really happy with my choice.

Ive never had a coil with hormones but I have been on the depo injection in the past which made me permanently hungry and depressed 😅

I bloody love my mirena coil, no periods for 13 years and now hitting menopause. I didn;t have any weight gain on it at all but it doesn't suit everyone.

Iv always had the copper coil and never had an problems or experienced any weight gain with it, I don’t understand how you could gain weight with the copper coil 🥴 I could understand if you had said when you had the hormone one, but I’m not a doctor or expert in that department,
The hormone coil just didn’t appeal to me

It was the hormonal coil. I had two hormonal when I first met my husband. Now, years later, I have the copper. No noticeable weight gain with the copper.

Sorry my mistake 🥴 I loved the coil and it really worked and suited me, hope you get something that suits and works for you 👍🏻

I have the copper coil and have experienced zero issues. I would choose it over the mirena everyday. Why mess your hormones up when you can have the copper coil which has no effect on hormones?

I had the copper coil for 6 years. At first it was fine, no noticeable side effects however after bleeding every single day for 18 months, I ended up having to have a transvaginal ultrasound, biopsy, colposcopy, cold coagulation & a hysteroscopy to find out why I was bleeding. My copper coil was the cause. I also had constant pelvic pain throughout that time. My copper coil was removed & the mirena inserted, my bleeding stopped instantly and I've not had a period since. Only noticeable side effect is that I had a few spots for a while which has now cleared up.

I've had the mirena coil in for 3 months now and have developed two cysts and thrush, I'm in pain every day and it's making me feel so so down. I've booked to have it removed at the end of this month, I'm going to ask for the copper coil to replace it (if that's possible). Does the copper coil hurt as much in insertion as the mirena coil? The mirena coil insertion pain was so awful, but not sure if that's because I don't have children

I would guess the pain is the same as they’re inserted the same way. However, you may find it less painful having another one. I had the copper coil put in around 6 years ago, but then due to an abnormal smear result I had to have treatment and the coil needed to be removed. I had it put back in a few months later and the pain wasn’t anywhere near as bad! I haven’t had children either, but the first time was absolute agony, I was crying in pain. The second time just felt like a very heavy period x

Thats normal. I bled for about 6 weeks after insertion but more like the end days of a period.
They should have warned you it takes up to 6 months to settle hence why they don't like to remove it any earlier

ah thats unfortunate. 6 weeks sounds like hell. its between brown spotting and heavy blood sometimes 🙄

If it's any consolation I haven't had a period since I was 35 and I'm 55 now.
Im only 24 , 2 babies in 2 years my body is whack 😂🤣 brown spotting has stopped now ,red bleeding now so hoping its just my period

guess it didnt go in my favour having it inserted a week before my period was due 🤣
