Most Ridiculous Argument You've Ever Heard/Had?

What is the most ridiculous argument you've ever had? When you know that you're correct but the other person just won't back down.

Two spring to mind -

When I was in year 5 or 6 I got into an argument with a girl in my class who refused to believe that H from Steps... wasn't called H. She thought that was his birth name because that's what it said in Smash Hits. I wasn't able to prove it to her and eventually gave up trying.

The other was when I was at uni. It was around the anniversary of the atomic bombing in Japan and my classmate suddenly said "I'm pleased they were bombed, they deserved it." I probed further and apparently it was because "loads more people died in Pearl Harbor than both bombs combined." Now - in Hiroshima, 140,000 people died instantly. In Nagasaki, 74,000 people died instantly. Many thousands more died later from the after-effects. In Pearl Harbor... 2403 died. Very sad, but very different numbers.

I eventually took her to the library to show her the statistics and she refused to accept those numbers and changed the subject.

Was at a farm with my husband, said I would love a small holding at some point. Would gladly raise our own food.

He was adamant we would not be raising our own food.

We had quite a heated argument about the food we would / would not raise and slaughter on the smallholding we didn't (and still don't have).

Took a couple of days to be back to normal with each other. Absolutely ridiculous 😂

I was having dinner with friends a few years ago and one dismissed the other's (admittedly unusual) food allergy because she'd never heard of it before. That was a weird one.

The argument I had with my husband when I realised that if I ever won the lotto, I wouldn't actually be able to tell him because he wouldn't be able to keep his mouth shut. He'd be straight on the phone to MIL and the world and his wife would know 5 minutes later.

I’ve argued with my husband that I don’t want his mother to know when I’m in labour - because she can’t keep her mouth shut! He thinks this is unfair because I want my mum to be with me whilst I give birth
To clarify, we don’t have children and I’m not even pregnant hahahahaha🤣🤣🤣

When we were 9/10, my friend/neighbour and I were arguing about which boy band was in the limo that had just driven down our road. I said it was Blazin Squad, but she thought it was Blue. She got quite temperamental and insisted that Duncan had waved at her.

In reality it was probably just a random party limo.

My friends just blew up at me over text as he wanted me to pick something for him to watch on tv and I said I’d rather sit in a dark room for a week than watch the tv shows he likes. It was meant as a bit of banter but he took it badly.

We’re now done with each other 🤣

Angry at your friend's reaction, not your post.

I'm coeliac and have an olive oil allergy; the former is only just acceptable in a social setting; the latter is always scoffed at as being ridiculous.

I hate to tell you this, but I think we're married to the same man! 😝

When I was in year 6 (so about 10/11) my friend who i had been mates with 7 years lost her cat 😂 shouldn't laugh really, the cat just disappeared. Anyway, we fell out and had an argument and she said to me 'you can't keep a friend for longer than 7 years' and I replied saying 'well you can't keep a cat for longer than 7 years!' 🤯😂

Ridiculous argument with my husband about winning the lottery. It was about £17m and he said he’d give his sisters a million each. I objected to one of them receiving that amount and it got quite heated. I ended up hoping we wouldn’t win it that week just so she wouldn’t get her cut.

That it's racist to say that french/british/etc POC aren't british/french/etc just because they're POC. That idiot kept insisting if they're not white brits they can have an attachment to that culture but it isn't theirs. After I called him a racist he asked if I was only calling him that because he's white.. I'm a mixed POC by the way.

Oh these are making me giggle! We have also had the lotto argument- especially as i would not want to give my brother in law (husbands brother) anything because he’s a conceited condescending git however couldn’t not give him anything because would be giving my sister and husbands sister something. Also makes me mad that husband says he would buy three holiday homes and a ferrari.
I would not want anyone to know for fear of it changing or destroying relationships.

Lucky we don’t ever buy lotto tickets 😳

I fell out with a friend because I went home at 10.30pm on her birthday night out as I had a
9 hr shift the following day. Her face dropped when I said I was leaving. We were say opposite ends of the table anyway 🙄. She text me LOADS of abuse. I should’ve booked the day off work I DIDNT EVEN HAVE MY OWN BIRTHDAY OFF WORK. We didn’t speak for years after that. We are civil now but it’ll never be the same.

Once argued with my ex after weighing ourselves. He insisted both scales he had stood on were wrong and refused to believe he had gained 4 stone in 3 years.

I stood on them and although I had gained a few lbs, they were accurate. I said hey, why don’t we put our son on? If it says our 2 year old is anymore than 2-3 stone then they’re wrong. Our son was 2 stone bang on the dot.

2 days he argued with me that the scales were wrong for only him and there was no way he was more than 16 stone. (The scales said 2 stone extra than that.)

2 days.

Years ago my then boyfriend lived in a rented flat with a shared garden which we both enjoyed pottering about in but didn’t like the layout of. We weren’t allowed to change any of it. One afternoon I asked him if it was his own garden what he would change and we both drew a plan of what we would like. There ensued a heated argument about why each other’s plans were rubbish and we didn’t talk for the rest of the day!

I've had a bit of an ongoing argument about extended rearfacing car seats for a toddler. I think they are more of a recent thing because I never came across them when my now teenager was that age.
The laws of physics and anatomy suggest it is safer to travel facing rearward in a vehicle but will they duck accept that . So what if these seats are more expensive, I can afford to buy one ( inlaws are cheapskates, they might have a different opinion if these were the cheapest) but they don't even consider that it may be my preference anyway.

They say if the others were so unsafe , they wouldn't sell them ( even though most things come in different degrees of betterness) . Loads of things that are unsafe are sold, like cigarettes and cot bumpers.

I remember at school arguing with someone that only bulls can have horns, not cows. Both male and female cattle can have horns , but all their mates agreed with them and ganged up on me. These days a quick Google on our phones would prove I was right.

An ex walked out of a bar we were in and I had to go after him once, I tit you not, he took a major huff because I said my friends cat was a little bit cuter than his sisters cat... I genuinely thought he was joking but he was deadly serious.

Argument with someone in class at school over the correct use of to/too. Something like “I like that too”. He was insisting it was ‘to’ and I said he was wrong and in that instance it should be ‘too’. Because he was “hard” and the English teacher was scared of him, she said he was right. I hope he used it incorrectly in his English GCSE exam and failed, though it was the spineless teachers fault more.

I was at an ex friend’s house, her and her partner were having an argument over who’d drank the most orange squash. It got quite nasty and they both stormed off to different rooms leaving me in the lounge like:

So I left. She then started arguing with me over text for “not taking her side”. 🙄
