I have had three mirena coils over the past 13 years. The mirena changed my life as I suffered terribly with heavy and painful periods. However, following the insertion of my third mirena in late 2016 there were changes to my body that in hindsight seem to be because of the coil. My hair started thinning out and for the first time in my life i started getting sore, painful hormonal acne on my chin and jawline. After a lot of research it seemed other women suffered these side effects of the coil.
long story short, I had my coil removed last week and am now free of hormonal contraception for the first time in 13 years. I have read about a “mirena crash” that can happen for the first several weeks post-removal as hormone levels reset. I feel fine so far, just a bit fatigued. I’m really disappointed that my skin seems to have broken out though. I have 3 large painful cysts on my jawline/under my chin. They itch and are really unpleasant.
I’m really hoping this is just a temporary “purge” as my skin and hormones return to normal.
just looking for a bit of support really. Has anyone else been in this situation? Did your skin get better? It’s so demoralising to have bad skin.
