Mid-cycle spotting

I had this, went to the doctor and was told I have something called cervical ectropian (sometimes called cervical erosion). It can be treated but can also go away on it's own. Might be worth just speaking to your GP to put your mind at ease :)

Thanks for your reply - this is reassuring! I’m a similar age (30) and think I am getting paranoid that every little thing is a potential fertility problem

I'm mid 30s, last year I started spotting 7 days before my period was due every month, the spotting lasted 1 day. I spoke to my GP who fell over herself organising a colposcopy within 2 weeks and when I went for that they told me I had the healthiest cervix they'd seen that day 😇🤣. Anyway a consultant was there while I had it done and she said spotting happens all the time and because of the regular timing of my spotting (always 7 days before my period) she said she was certain it was hormonal. I'd say because you've had the colposcopy you are safe from anything sinister, but check with your GP (mainly because we aren't medically trained 🤣) I'm sure they'll put your mind at rest in a quick phone call

Eta the whole thing lasted about 6 months and I've never had it again since...

As the title would suggest, I'm having some mid-cycle spotting.

It really is a very small amount, just a bit of pink when I wipe, but is it Something?

I had a smear at the beginning of the year - had to go for a colposcopy but was given the all clear, so I don't think it's anything sinister in that sense. Also had an STI check up at the start of the year and that came back all clear. I haven't had sex since before my last period (me and bf are long distance) so I know I'm not pregnant.

Google has said it could be ovulation bleeding - it's the right time for that - but it does say that only 5% of women get this, does anyone else?

Just to go full TMI - I do get a bit of (sort of) brownish discharge at around this time every month. Lasts a day or two and, to be VERY TMI, it's almost like tiny strings of brown in normal discharge - I've always just put this down to it being old period blood that never quite made it out. I did mention it to an STI nurse years ago when I had a check up and she dismissed it and said it was fine.

So, I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else gets this? It's hard to ask 'real life' women about their discharge and period...habits but I think it does help to get a general consensus because we can fall into the trap of thinking anything outside of a 4 day period every 28 days is a big red flag. Plus I have huge health anxiety so am going to continue obsessing about this...

I really would not worry - you’ve done everything right and had all the checks that a medic would recommend to allay your concerns. If it was more than spotting (as in the amount of blood), if you had it for more than a day or so, and/or if you started having pain I would say go back to the GP.

We are all different though re: periods - cycle length, number of days etc. and things like this should be talked about more to normalise what is a natural bodily function. I would love to have a 4 day period - mine is 7 days for example. I have a friend whose last 3 days but cause her a great deal of pain.

If you can spare 10 mins it would be great to answer a current consultation open re: women’s health and where more support and information could be targeted to include period health. You can access it here.

Hello! I was having the same issue about 18 months ago, just a small amount mid-cycle for a few months.
I had the coil fitted at the time so I went to get that checked and it was all fine. They told me to go to my gp and ask to be referred for a scan. I did that (my gp was reluctant as said it’s quite normal to spot but I told her I was anxious about it). I then had a scan on my ovaries about a week later and it came back clear, the spotting cleared up after that too! (Typical!) I’ve had no spotting at all since. it’s probably fine but if you are worried, def go and get it checked out :) it’s great you are up to date with your smear and STI check though!
