She has recently turned 18
I honestly don't buy all this tit about going through courts etc. If she's receiving a disability benefit she would've had to request to be Dionne's appointee when she was turning 16. Someone comes to the house to make sure continuing to pay the parent is the best thing for the child. You can apply for guardianship and power of attorney 3 months before the child's 16 birthday too. This is so important as in the eyes of the law a 16 year old is deemed as an adult and responsible. If Dionne was admitted to hospital for example and someone was to discuss her care and if she nodded it would be seen as yes. Same goes for finances.

People discuss it in support groups and I'm sure the school would've said something to her about it too.

Yes but the current time scale for a mental health officer to be appointed is around 18 months - 24 months. Dionne doesn’t have legal capacity so a guardianship order is required.

The going to court part is administrative only it's not something parent / careers need to attend

She’s wanting funding to pay for Dionne’s own private care, does the council actually check where this money goes or is she just given a monthly cheque to do as she pleases with ?
