It was my boyfriend's idea to watch it as he said the trailer looked good. I was like "Well I'll see". As others have said, the first episode makes you question your decision to watch it. But sticking with it is worth it and by the 2nd episode I was totally into it and now can't wait to see how the story all pans out.

I think the ep illustrated Mare’s somewhat dubious police practices. How good of a cop is she? Is it just a job (tv cops are always like it’s a vocation right)?

Just throwing some theories out there: I feel like the girls are being punished because they have 'sinned' by being into drugs, being escorts etc. This might hint and religious/church involvement but what if it's not the shady deacon - what if it's the other priest is involved? Mare's cousin? He doesn't fit the profile of the guy we saw in the truck, but the deacon kinda does? Maybe they are working together? Not my best theory but I am just thinking as I type! Another theory: The husband of Mare's BFF (Can't remember his name). He looks like the guy in the truck and they keep showing him. He's related to Erin, right? I can't remember if he's an uncle or a cousin. But could he also be the father of her baby? Ugh.
I feel like there could be two different storylines at play here: it seems like the girls are all connected but maybe it's just a coincidence and there are two different perpetrators. I'm still not sure what's going on with Guy Pearce - but I don't trust him either.
I thought it was cute how Evan Peters referred to Mare as 'my Mare.' He has a crush! Have to say that Evan Peters has mostly played a complete psycho in everything I've seen him in so I keep wondering if there's a dark side to his character, lol! Trust no one.

Oooh I agree with some of your theories! I said maybe the cousin is involved and the Guy Pearce character is throwing me.
Then last night I said oh wouldn't it be a plot twist if Evans character is involved somehow.
I predicted who the person would be calling with the ransom. Totally surprised by the end.

I still haven't got a clue who is involved or why. But loving it so far. I was really surprised at the end when Katie was alive. I'm hoping Evans character doesn't have anything to do with it all. Even though he usually plays the villan/killer etc. I keep thinking it might be Mare's daughter next(I hope it's not though as I love her character) or she witnesses something. Still no idea what Guy Pearce is up to

Theories:
I think Erin's baby daddy is Erin's dad or one of the brothers. If not, am still pretty sure Erin's dad killed her and her murder is a coincidence with the other plotline i.e the other 2 are still alive.
I have 2 theories:
1. I think the deacon and Erin had a scrap and thats why he had her bike but its not him but the other deacon, Mare's cousin.
2. Mike from neighbours is a shady fecker, i reckon the plot is that he has set it all up for his second 'novel', seen Mare on the telly and rode into town and got with her for 'research'
3. None of the above
4. Hoping for ending number 2 so that Mare is all fuming, gets hammered and takes Evan up on his offer (and I can live vicariously through me TV screen and indulge all my Mrs Robinson fantasies

Two girls are alive, 1 is not. So, two perps would make sense.

I’m hoping since this is a gritty drama with a dose of reality it’s not going to be some stupid reveal of character we’ve gotten to know. But actually Katie being alive is a bit of a curveball in terms of the gritty realism that was trundling along.
