It’s not a European thing, it was a just plain old case of a man grabbing up a woman and sexually assaulting her in full public view, knowing that he could get away with it because of his position and influence.

I’ve just been reading about this. I’m not sure why, but I feel quite emotional about it. Not because of what he did, but the way she’s standing firm and has the support of her team. I knew they had issues with their manager as well but apparently he insisted on them sleeping with doors open, checking their bags and reporting on who they’ve been with - that’s crazy.
The Spanish team are absolutely at the height of their power at the moment so I really hope they get what they want.

That crotch grab too . How can a man (who brings up his daughters in his justification) do that when standing next to a sixteen year old girl and her mother, the Queen of Spain? Insulting and inappropriate on all levels. I doubt King Felipe would be too happy on hearing about that. Can you imagine someone from the FA doing that at Wembley say in the Royal Box next to the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte? There would be apoplexy all round in the media.

I'm a bit worried because there is a IG live video of her actually saying in the post-celebrations that she was ok with it, but when one of her team mates asked why she would do this she said "what can I do?" which clearly implies she didnt wanted it and she felt coerced by the power imbalance, but I'm not very confident that a court would recognise this dynamic. It's a issue many women face unfortunately.

Granted, they dont mention this in this crazy statement and instead analyzed the body language on some pictures (lol), but they will no doubt get hold of this video at some point

I hadn't realised that he had also lifted another player up on his shoulder either. She doesn't look happy about it.

Is there the same royal protocol of not touching royalty in Spain? His arm around Queen Letizia as she stands stiffly with her arms at her side . That's another No with an unconsenting woman, let alone the Queen.

I'm glad to see the men's teams issuing statements of condemnation.

Even if you were to give him the benefit of the doubt that his intentions weren’t unsavoury and he thought she was consenting, he still comes out of this badly. If he were a halfway decent guy, he would be absolutely mortified to learn that she didn’t consent and he would be apologising profusely. Not whatever the hell he’s doing now!

I’ve been away a few days and hadn’t realised this had blown up. When I saw the kiss and the lift on telly last Sunday I thought it was weird behaviour, at best unprofessional. To me it just screamed a guy choosing to be inappropriate because he thought he could use an excuse of the jubilation of the situation.
