Been watching a few of her homey vlogs and Adam is such a lovely guy glad she found someone so nice. She used to talk a lot about her ex that cheated on her and how it really crushed her confidence etc. Nice to see he makes her happy.

This morning she did, I’m sure of it, gone to watch it this afternoon, not there
This is starting to piss me off. If you're gonna go and make 2/3 of your content advertising, at least bleeping have some integrity.

Out of her last 7 videos, 5 of them are ads.... Not sure how she's getting away with that without some kind of major backlash from her subscribers. Don't even get me started on her instagram posts/stories.

I think this is the choice she’s made, she will use her shop as a hobby and something she enjoys, using Instagram and YouTube purely for ADs, I don’t know if she’s stated that

It seems that way but like many others, I use Youtube as a way to relax and watch some people that entertain me, not to get inspiration for my next shopping trip. Constantly being subjected to ads has actually started to give me anxiety. I might keep my nonessential shopping to a need/treat basis but it feels like even my free time activities are yelling at me to buy, buy, buy. I know she has to earn her living but come on. Her platforms are starting to look like a catalogue.

But why does it make you feel like that, if I may ask?
I have watched all of Lucy’s last videos and didn’t have a single desire to go and buy anything she promotes, even though we actually need a new TV 😂 An ad is an ad, it doesn’t require you to buy anything.

I'm generally anxiety prone and I've been so tired of the consumerist culture of the general youtube scene. (Remember the weekly primark/boots/topshop/whatever hauls? I don't see them much anymore but they were everywhere.) I don't watch Youtube too much anymore, at least not "youtubers" so when a handful of people I do enjoy to see start shoving products down my throat, it really bothers me. I know it doesn't require me to buy anything by law but but I want to be able to watch something without also constantly hearing an insincere bit about whatever product they aren't actually using.

But that’s what “generic” YouTuber is about though? If it’s a booktuber, they want you to read and buy books they talk about. If it’s a lifestyle/fashion/beauty youtuber, they want you to buy their lifestyle/clothes/makeup they promote.
I would try to watch someone like Sustainably Vegan, it any other minimalist youtubers, but even they from time to time promote products, because they need to earn money? 🤷‍♀️

I totally agree with this, humans have literally set this planet on fire, there is enough clothing already produced to clothe the next 6 generations. Being aware of this and still being surrounded with the culture of "buy, buy, buy" even when trying to relax and watch some light entertainment takes its toll.

I'm not opposing that in any way, neither do I have an illusion about what social media platforms are. The key word to me in your reply is "time to time". It's a difficult balance for the content creator too, and I'm afraid a no win situation as well. If they cut it out altogether, their income will decrease significantly, if they push the ads a lot for a better income, they risk appearing as shopping channel presenters and some viewers might object. It's great that the ads don't bother you! It's just not something that I enjoy seeing in 4 posts/videos out of 5. I'm not offering a solution to my own issue with it, merely expressing my feelings.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to answer your first question. The "generic" I was talking about were the bigger names in their heyday and the content trends of that era. Zoella, Tanya Burr, Ingrid, Fleur etc. No particularly strong theme to their channels apart from hauls, collabs, more hauls, sponsorships... Almost all of them are irrelevant at the moment but the guilt-free consumerism was still the order of the day around their peak years and that's what exhausted my tolerance for "here's what you can buy now" type of content out there. I believe a happy middle ground can be found but I'm glad my responsibilities end with curating what I watch/see online.

I must admit, the ads that YouTube puts in annoy me more than any influencer ad 😂 Especially when it shows something irrelevant to me, like a car ad.
I think it’s the difference in attitude towards ads. Like with the TV ad that Lucy has done - we do need a new tv, but I am not just going to get a random tv that an influencer showed me, I’d do my research. I don’t think I have ever bough anything specifically promoted by an influencer - and not because I don’t like the idea of influencer marketing, it’s just that normally I don’t need the things they promote 🙈 I may look up a brand and take a note if I like it but it rarely happens.

With Lucy's razor advertising, she's posting so much  It's in her vids, IG posts, IG Stories... Are they really paying that well or did she sign some stupid contract that said she had to include the razor in 13 videos, 161661 Stories and 764 IG posts? It's getting boring.

If a channel becomes “advertising with personality” then it’s a turn off. Sorry, just how it is. People subscribe because they find value somewhere, whether that be relatability or learning something or simple light entertainment. People don’t tend to watch for advertising campaigns.

when YouTubers make content purely to house or shoehorn in an ad, it feels like they’re treating you with a little bit of contempt. Like they don’t care about a community relationship between creator and viewer (which it was how it was before commercialism took over) but rather how much money they can make off the back of watch time. The laziest of all this type of content is a a vlog with ad.

There’s a difference between making a video just so you can advertise something, and making a video that happens to have an ad in it because the opportunity came up. That difference is the reason behind why they’re creating.

It shouls be 1 ad to every 5 non ads. That would be nicer for the viewer, a otherwise i won't watch the ads. A nice vlog with some calming everday mundane activities or a story time. Book reviews or recipe reviews would fit Lucy's channel. She also has a lot of diy to do.

No i don't want to pay full price for a television you got for free. Funny that.

OMG That last line just sums up the influencers right now.

Not this Lucy trying to make us buy coffee she never drunk before. Doesn't she have a Nespresso machine?

She’s just an endless carousel of advertising. It’s a shame because I hate being sold things, jovially or not.

I know, she started off so well but the ads inevitably come when they make YouTube their full time income.
