So my period was 10 days late this month, unusual for me. They normally come on time, last 6 days and are heavy day 2/3 and 4.

So when they came eventually they were light for a week. I thought by day 6 they'd be gone but on day 7 i had awful pains like a stitch and a sudden burst of bright red blood with clots all over pad. I've been bleeding ridiculously heavily for a week since so my period is 2 weeks long so far. Having to change pad every hour or so.

i had a smear recently everything was fine. Really not sure what this could be. Is this normal??? I'm 31

Have you had covid lately? I had it a few months ago and my periods for two months after were similar to yours. It’s only this month that it’s been a bit more normal

Are you on contraception at all?
Have you had any pain during sex?
Recent sti checks? X
I've had the copper coil for three years, periods were heavy for three months after then settled down been fine since then. I did notice bleeding after sex a few times the past few months but sti checks were all clear x

Have you had a recent Covid jab? My period was late after my booster and then much heavier and longer.

I would recommend you speak to your GP. It may be they can refer you for an ultrasound just to check there isn’t anything going on. With things like this it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

I'm not vaccinated and haven't had covid - i maybe thought it was an early miscarriage as I was so late but i did a test and it was negative

that was going to be my next question so that’s good💕
I would speak with your GP especially if you have bleeding after sex just to be on the safe side. I have had bleeding between periods before and they did a pelvic exam etc just to check everything was ok.

I’ve had heavy/long periods for years now, bane of my life, been checked for everything and can’t find anything wrong, told it just happens sometimes in your 30s - not acceptable tbh but very little sympathy for such issues.

Recently took a course of Norethisterone for a month which stops your period (bit like the pill would if you didn’t take the break but this is NOT a contraceptive) and the period I had after that only lasted 7 days which was great given that I’d not had one less than 4 weeks long for agggeesss. I stopped the Norethisterone this month because I’m TTC and currently on day 2 of my period which I hope will be of normal length. My understanding is that the Norethisterone can trigger a bit of a ‘reset’ but unfortunately it hasn’t reduced any heaviness or clotting and my cramps were debilitating which is rare for me. Either way I’ve got a decent supply of it so I know I can stop the bleeding when I need to, but I’m trying to limit use as it makes me very irritable and hormonal, and it can be harmful if you get pregnant while taking it.

I’d definitely get it checked out if you’re bleeding that heavily for that long just to put your mind at rest of nothing else. I’ve been prescribed Norethisterone for heavy bleeding in the past and it’s worked really well to stop it. Probably worth a GP appointment for that alone!

Two mentions for Norethisterone at the same time!

I had this exact same thing years ago.
I went to the doctors and they did another smear test and all was fine. They send me for an ultrasound and all was fine again.
Never had an answer for it and it never happened again 🤷🏻‍♀️
It was so weird!

I had this recently and mine was a cyst that had burst.
this was my thought, sounds like a cyst that's burst - that would explain the sharp pain in the stomach and lots of blood! please go and see your gp asap just to make sure everything is okay! 💖

Because it was so early hormone levels could have dropped before bleeding even started,
I use had covid and my period stopped half way through after 2 days, I know covid and the jab mess with periods but it was so strange
