Interesting that all the people leaping to paint a picture of normal he is, how nice his car is, how he helped an elderly neighbour to get their cat out of a tree, how his wife teaches at Sunday School are all people who wouldn’t have had more than basic interactions with him.

none of these things make him a decent human, they simply show that he done the absolute basics that almost every human being would do.

What this case is teaching me, and someone else referenced it in the last thread, is it's interesting what is seen as 'acceptable' levels of substance use, mental illness, trauma, violence against others and use of weapons both in media and joe public discourse. It's so wrapped up in skin colour, social status, patriotic vigour and class isn't it?

Using a car as a weapon in a crowded street, trapping people under said car, seriously injuring a 9 year old and flinging a baby in a pram 15ft in the air and being a clear, outright and proud misogynist and racist if his social media is anything to go by? Desperately explained by mental gymnastics as panic/self defence if it's a white, ex marine, middle class lifestyle, educated man. The absolute entitlement and privilege of he's 'one of us' who needs defending at all costs is

If you have more melanin in your skin, or intergenerational trauma from your parents being in a genocide, or you are poor or on benefits, or you are a taxi driver with PTSD nobody would be bothering to defend you at all. No, if he hadn't driven into the crowd, none of this would have happened. If he hadn't accelerated, none of this would have happened. If he hadn't made the decisions he made that day; to ignore signs, warnings, people walking around - to be so arrogant to think he could do as he pleased, none of this would have happened.

I can't help but feel horrifically sorry for him. I am not in anyway taking that away from all those affected and hurt but I do genuinely think he has made the biggest mistake of his life, reacted in utter panic after stupidly thinking he could get through quickly probably. I don't even think there is going to be any drink or drugs in his system. I think he has f*cked up big style and has ruined the rest of his life by making a really stupid rash decision.
And I can't help but feel sick to the stomach for him that he could spend a significant amount of time inside away from this young family, due to the large scale of the incident and media coverage but I do also understand a lot of people could be affected by this for the rest of their lives.

He accelerated into a crowd on the other side of the road. He actually drove at them, not away from them.

I don’t actually think Axel Rudakabana was trying to cover his tracks but we don’t actually know what social media he had. He had been screaming out for help since calling Childline at the age of 13 saying he wanted to stab someone. When he took a knife to school aged 13 and was asked why he said “to use it”. He was seeing mental health services who started refusing to see him without police present because all he wanted to talk about was the Rwandan Genocide and they were afraid of him.

This boy was literally shouting from the rooftops for 4 years he was going to kill somebody, with multiple services engaged, including Prevent, and no one thought for a second “this lad needs long term inpatient care”. It’s a disgrace how those little girls were failed.

I don’t feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for the people who were there who probably have some form of PTSD in crowds now. My boyfriend’s a lifelong Liverpool supporter, who was there that day and saw it happen, and has categorically said he would be worried about attending any sort of parade or even going to Anfield to watch a match (small blessing they’re not doing as well this season). But jokes aside, he’s remorseful only because that’s what his defence will be telling him to say. You don’t drive into people, A BABY IN A PRAM, with zero malice intent.

I feel sick for the 6 and 7 month old babies that could of lost their lives when he started reversing and plummeting straight into crowds

I’ve fully caught up on this thread now and lost more than a few brain cells along the way.
Decided not to mute Jas because everyone keeps responding to her therefore it’s totally fucking pointless.

My opinion:
As with any crime, there now has to be an investigation. This will take months.

The judge put reporting restrictions on the press the other day; this means the victims who’ve already spoken to the press can’t do any more interviews. Well technically they can, but the press can’t publish them. This is the right thing IMO.

that restriction also means any victims who haven’t yet spoken to the press (could include the ones currently in hospital) also won’t have press interviews published. After the trial they will probably have their time to speak if they want to but not now.

Again, this is right. It means the whole investigation and trial can be carried out as it should be.
the lawyers, defence and prosecution already have a job on their hands given so many people published videos (EVIDENCE) on social media.

we don’t have a right to the information to fill in the gaps in his story, and quite frankly, his backstory is the least part of the whole story. What matters isn’t what school he went to, but how long he’ll spend in prison for what he done.

there are victims in this, lots of them, and a 9yr old child still in hospital. the focus should be on ensuring justice is served for them, not whether this cunt of a man is a true scouser and whether he wears Montirex clothes.

Is this guy actually from Liverpool or someone who’s moved into the city? None of it makes sense, I don’t even live in Liverpool and knew about the parade and the route weeks ago. Why would anyone attempt to drive through the city centre when a football parade is on? If you know Liverpool and anything about the people you’d know how busy it would be. If you don’t like football or support Liverpool you’d avoid the city centre altogether surely?

It’s also interesting people are already claiming he had PTSD. We don’t actually know that. It’s just an assumption because the Reform brigade are struggling to wrap their heads around the fact he‘s white and one of ‘our brave lads‘ rather than a Muslim asylum seeker.

This is the problem isn't it? The media IS the white, middle aged, high status male. They want to protect their power, privilege and position at all costs. They can't have people thinking they are dangerous and unhinged or they won't be allowed to rule the world. But they rule it anyway with brute force and they seem to think that's just how it should be, because they say it's how it should be, and we all have to fall in & continue to get physically or morally hurt in the process and just accept it.

Not defending the MSM, but now that he’s been charged, they can (should) only report some things at this stage due to our court laws. Eg reports from the court etc. They’ll likely be compiling all the background stories for after the trial. They can’t do anything until then without risking the court outcome. It would be the same regardless of his colour, background, etc. It’s why big stories always go quiet as soon as someone is charged.

If you remember the Joanna Yeates murder case, a lot of newspapers got done for contempt of court as they printed so much about her landlord, Christopher Jeffries. Even though he turned out to be completely innocent, their reporting was found to have been a risk to any potential trial.
