I’ve been getting lip filler for approx 6 years and always opt for a natural look. My advice would be so your research: read reviews, look at their work. Photos will show you if they do natural filler or if they do more dramatic looks. Let the technician know that you want a natural look!

I’d also say start off with a small amount, maybe 0.5ml- go away and see how it heals after swelling. You can then top it up if you want a bit more volume. You can always add more but you can’t take any away (unless you dissolve)!

A lot of people say go to doctors or medical professionals but my advice would be to go to someone who does filler full time. Someone who does lips 5 days a week, multiple clients a day over a number of years will be much more skilled than a full time doctor who does one or two sets of lips a month and spends the rest of the time doing other work (in my opinion). My technician isn’t a dr or dentist but she does filler full time, has all the relevant qualifications and a hygienic clinic.

make sure you get aftercare advice and you have their number to call if anything doesn’t seem right.

I've been considering it for ages and I think lots of people with them look great. Equally I think lots of people with them don't look great, and knowing my luck I'll be one of those people that end up looking botched

Any sort of advice on how to avoid the botched look? Or anyone who got filler and regretted it and is willing to talk me out of it?

Considering getting it done in August before starting uni in September!

Hey hun. So Iv had it done- but whenever I have fillers/ Botox I always go to my dentist. With her being a doctor I just felt she would know the anatomy of the face in abit more detail and she would be used to giving injections. Iv heard too many horror stories by going to cheap places where they’ve had a days training.
She showed me lots of her work beforehand and explained clearly what she was going to do. I had an injection first to numb the area, then the actual injections for the filler itself was hardly felt, it was more of an odd/ sore sensation. Iv only ever had 1ml of lip filler at each time.
The first time I had them done I had so many cold sores (I’m so prone to them!) but then for the next time she was able to prescribe some antI viral tablets for me, and I never broke out in them the second time of having it.
My lips also swelled so much! I was horrified the first time and wondered what I’d done for the first 24 hours. But once they settled down they looked lovely. She made them natural looking and if you didn’t know me before you wouldn’t have guessed I had had it.
If I’m honest sometimes I wish I would have a bit more put in but I never have.
I’m very insecure in my appearance and so Iv had a lot of cosmetic surgery and fillers/ Botox.
I regret a lot of what Iv had done, mainly my cheek fillers. But I have to say that the lip filler did look very nice.

Hello! I'm in America (I know most of this forum is UK based) but I do marketing for a firm that specializes in plastic surgery and cosmetic beauty -- aka, I write about this kind of stuff a lot. Here's some advice I'd give if you're interested in fillers:

• Always do plenty of research beforehand and don't go to a lower-priced practice just because "it's a good deal." If you want good work, a lot of times it's going to cost a more upfront.
• I would suggest going to a plastic surgery practice or med spa that does cosmetic treatments full time. Look online for how much training and experience their injectors have. Choose someone who does this for a living and knows what they're doing.
• Browse the practice's before-and-after photos to get a good idea of what you can actually expect for your results.
• Be sure to tell your injector that you want a more natural look. The natural look is what's in these days anyway, so they should be perfectly understanding!
• It's good to start small and work your way up. Once you have an idea of what looks good on you, you can ask for more filler during touch-up treatments down the road.

I’ve had lip filler once a year since 2017. My first appointment I had 0.8ml (I paid for 1ml as I wanted more than 0.5ml but told her not to use it all if I didn’t need it, I already have quite full lips just a crap top lip). Second time I had 1ml. 3rd year I only got like 0.3ml as was on strong painkillers which had thinned my blood too much. This time was pretty pointless. This year I just had 0.7ml about a month ago.
Would definitely recommend and it’s not that painful but do your research before you choose a practitioner. Your face is worth that extra £50/100 for someone good!! And don’t over do it. I limit myself to once a year.

Oh and don’t waste money on 0.5ml. It basically does nothing more than hydrate your lips, they’d swell for a day and you’d love them then the swelling goes down and there wouldn’t really be a difference.

I have had my lips done about 5 times now - I started off at 1ml and then a few months later had another half etc. I went a year not getting them and they lasted a long time, i had a top up last week!

I have had cheek filler and wouldnt again as it was really expensive and I didnt really see a difference. I love my lip fillers they look plump but really natural, absolutely love them. People get the wrong idea because they see all the botched jobs and the OTT but in reality most people dont even know i have mine done!

I'm new to deciding I would like some lip fillers too. I am a smoker so have some creases in my lips, they are relatively full but I just want them plumped to smooth them out if anything. I dont want anything drastic. However I have a scar in the middle of my bottom lip, could this effect results at all if anyone knows? Also I had no idea dentists and doctors (surely this is not your regular doctor is it? Sorry to sound dumb!) do them either, do all dentists offer this?

Not sure re the scar but re dentists - filler is a bit odd in England because there’s actually no regulation about who can perform filler treatments. This means you could get a dentist/Doctor/nurse who has done the training do it, but equally you get nail technicians do it on the side. I chose to go with a nurse who does filler half the week and works in the NHS the rest of the time. I wouldn’t go for someone like a dentist as they don’t do filler as their ‘main’ job and the worst lips I’ve seen have actually been done by dentists. You want someone who is not only trained in the safety (so I wouldn’t go to someone who is a beautician by trade and has done a bit of filler training) but also the aesthetics. It’s worth doing a lot of research because if it goes wrong the consequences can be horrific. Nurses and doctors do tend to cost more, I paid £250 for 1ml when I know there’s nail techs etc around me who offer 1ml for £120 but I would never ever go with someone who doesn’t have at least some medical background personally.

I really want 0.5/1ml doing. My bottom lip is OK but it’s my top lip that disappears when I smile with teeth so I don’t smile like that lol. Silly I know. I have a friend who is talking me out of it, but I think it would give me confidence

Advice, go to someone you trust & research into the type of filler.

I've had mines done a few times from 2 different people (nurses) one was a lot more expensive & I wouldn't say either were any better.
I've never found it sore although it's often stingy at cupid's bow!

I've had 3 different fillers, Belotero metabolised within 3 weeks with me so would never use it again. Juvederm Smile was a nice filler, had that once. Juvederm Volbella I've found the best. The needles thinner, the product is softer & it lasts so much longer. So much so I haven't had mine done in 2 years & won't need to any time soon.

Teosyal has been known to migrate, gives that white line above the top lip where it's moved. Know a couple of people who had problems with it & the woman who done my lips also confirmed this.

When the time comes I won't be going back to the nurse who usually does mine. She's done them beautifully but last time I could feel a gap in the filler in the bottom lip. I didn't speak up at the time as I trusted her. I really regret that as she had left a noticeable gap & was very obvious if I wore lipstick. Took months to calm down but can still feel it. She ignored my text about it. I went back for botox & she tried to tell me the gap must've always been there if you feel something is off, tell them there & then!

Dentists have amazing knowledge of the face btw!

i got 0.5 in each lip but you literally cannot tell the difference. My lips were big anyway i just hated that when i smiled they always seemed to disappear!
Thinking of going to get 1ml but i feel like that will then look blow up doll esque and i also dont want the pain again!!

If you've got big lips you'll be able to take 1ml, don't worry! I was the same and I wanted to get 0.5ml because I didn't want it to look fake, but she advised me to get 1ml and I'm sooo glad she did. She told me 0.5ml would look great while swollen then once it's gone back down you won't notice it, and my friend had 0.5ml then went back not too long after because it wasn't enough. I need a top up actually but I'm being a wimp, even though I know it didn't hurt much it's just the thought of it

I think I might ask for money towards some for Xmas/Birthday (birthday is 2 week after Christmas) rather than presents. I was in the gym today infront of a mirror and thought my lips would look more in-proportion with my face if they were slightly bigger.

I got my lips done one year ago and I absolutely loved the result no regrets. I got them done from my doctor. They were really painful getting them done it takes about 20 mins or so. You cant put pressure on them so you will be drinking through a straw for 2 days after and you will lose a bit of weight from not wanting to eat much. They look huge at first then they settle after a few days. I’m getting them done again in a few weeks time. they get smaller over time. At about the 8 month mark they swelled up big again on me and I was delighted. Now they are all gone they lasted a year for me. My advice would be only get them done once every year/ year and a half. I would recommend them to people I had a great experience

I’ve got a scar on my bottom lip at one side where I had stitches when I was little. Never been an issue.
I previously went to an ex army medic she was so so good then she moved cities and stopped doing it then I researched and researched and now drive 2/3 hours to see someone else as I didn’t like anyone else in my cities work. My new girl is a qualified dentist but now most of her work is aesthetics and she’s a trainer for other aesthetic practioners. I agree with others I won’t go to my normal dentist or doctor who only do it 2-3 times a year.

Really check who you go with. Don’t choice based on price/Instagram. Mine is not cheap, but I agree with another post check out your dentist if they do it.
Also go for a ml as again like past quoted half a mil will look more when swollen but you’ll really not noticed a different PENDING you are after but you won’t notice massive difference with one go. Once your number with cream it’s more a Sharp scrape Feeling not painful as you’d expect.
