Following some mentions on the Jack Monroe thread decided to make one for Linda Riley’s dodgy dealings. She owes SO much in tax she wants putting away the cheeky cow.

Years ago, before I knew much about her, I thought Linda Riley was great because she’s an out lesbian who’s very successful and powerful in the media. I’m bi, and I know how important representation is.

Now I just think she’s a nasty piece of work, and it’s kind of insulting to the LGBT community to use diversity as a shield (in that people will automatically think she’s doing a good thing, and not look into the details).

This was mentioned in the Private Eye article, but I think it deserves more attention.

In 2015, a planning application was approved for a women’s museum in East London. It was described by the people behind it as this -

The museum will recognize and celebrate the women of the East End who have shaped history, telling the story of how they have been instrumental in changing society. It will analyze the social, political and domestic experience from the Victorian period to the present day.”

Sounds great. But when the museum opened, it was actually a Jack The Ripper museum!

Understandably people were angry at being misled, and feminists (rightly, in my opinion) were angry about the museum “monetizing the murder of working class women.”

Who the duck decided this shambles? One of the directors of the museum was Linda Riley.

A UK charity fighting violence against women has denied that it will receive donations from the Jack the Ripper Museum in east London. A statement from Eaves Charity said the claim that part of the attraction’s profits would go to the Eaves Charity was not true and that no-one relating to the “museum” had approached it. “As a charity with a long history of supporting women survivors of violence we are unhappy with the way in which the museum has used our name without permission….We have contacted the museum and asked them to remove us from their website and will continue to contact them until they do so.”

Here’s more information about Riley’s involvement, it looks like she was a director of the company behind the museum, but then distanced herself.

Yes she always seems to be mixed up in these things, in a somewhat hapless way? Like, seems to jump in then it goes all weird.
You’d think she’d get a bit more savvy each time and yet, here we are. She is essentially a salesperson. She “manages accounts” aka siphons sponsorship out of large corporations.

It is no wonder that Linda and Guest (Jack Monroe for any non JM thread visitors) are friends. It is frightening how similar they are in their character and also how they present themselves to the world.

Grifty birds of a feather really do flock together.

So pleased to see this thread! She’s about as dodgy as it comes.
She first came to my attention with the appalling Jack the Ripper museum debacle and is very good at dodging taxes and nepotism.

Learning what I have about Linda today it now makes total sense why she has stuck by Jack.

Incorporated in 2021. First set of accounts showing aggregate debts of £714k from July 21 to July 22.

Firstly I love and am so impressed by you guys and what you can find. Who needs an investigative podcast when you’ve got tattle threads 💅🏻

Secondly how the duck is a company with no cash at bank to meet these obligations when they fall due or assets for liquidators to liquidate managing to find such huge credit lines? Especially because she’s spinning up new entities constantly it’s not as if these Ltds will have built any credit history?

Because they are exempt accounts it doesn't break down what these debts are. But i’d guess Directors Loan Account is a big chunk of that. Cash at bank £47k 😂

And the liquidators comments about the previous company and the directors lack of cooperation as to where €800k went speak for themselves

Also got the image from browsing the company details that any meeting with the liquidator had SHANT in it when they asked where £800k went or how it was to be paid back

But then she fucked off to America (according to Begbies Traynor) so wasn't worth the cost of chasing it.

An accountancy adjacent Frau may be able to help out here

Also worth noting that a lot of her companies are either struck off through compulsory action or have that listed and discontinued. Which would suggest a chaotic attitude to compliance
