Also the misinformation that SW consultants feed members! "no it doesn't matter if you dont drink water during the day, that wont affect your weight loss" "Oh you went to the gym this week and gained oh you must be gaining muscle cause muscle weighs more than fat!" (Last I check a kilo of feathers was the same as a kilo of sugar!) "You've had a good week this week, it'll show next week"

“Body Image” now when I very first went and heard about it, the “you must stay for body image” I genuinely thought it would be talking about things, about how we feel/how we’ve got on. Sharing tips and recipes.
Not having someone point to you and be all “Banana- you lost/gained this week *uncomfortable pause/possibly a clap if you’ve lost* how do you feel?” You then ramble on quickly and she moves on. It made me uncomfortable. Especially if I gained and Slender-Susan lost a whopping 5lbs.
Then you get the old clicks. The long timers that all sit together. And then the over weight consultants. Mine just put weight on over and over, wouldn’t weigh in.
And (sorry I’m on one 😂) if I miss one why do I need to pay?!

SW made me feel bad about foods. A coffee morning in Costa with my mum would be a small skinny latte which I classed as my healthy extra A. We would also share a packet of mini muffins, 3 each, if you know Costa then you will know the ones I mean they are tiny. But....I would then spend the days leading up to group worrying about the 3 mini muffins and if they were going to cause a gain.
Not a healthy way to live. I no longer go to SW, I am just mindful of what I eat and have learnt to be happy with myself and no longer fret over mini muffins 😂😂

This! The excuse of gaining weight because you exercised....this put me off exercise as I was obsessed with the numbers on the scale and so desperately needed my next sticker and certificate for instagram 😂

Slimmer of the week.....oh lovely, we get to take home a basket of over ripe fruit and tins of chickpeas 😂

I did slimming world for a year and lost almost 3 stone. To start with I thought it was great, but then I would start to gain for no reason. I was following the plan and still would end up 2-3lb up the following week. Mentally it destroyed me and my relationship with food.
Then they changed some of the rules. Certain ‘free’ foods were no longer free, things I hadnt needed to measure were suddenly restricted. Eventually I gave up after I put back on one of the stone I had lost despite religiously following the plan, weighing every week, staying for the talky bit.
I then binge ate everything I hadn’t been allowed before, put the whole lot back on and felt even worse.
Now (2.5 years later) I am finally starting to get a better relationship with food again. I have done a lot of research about how dangerous some of the things slimming world teaches (the link between carbs and type 2 diabetes for example) and now I eat a balanced diet, enjoying all things in moderation, exercising more and generally loving life.
I wish I hadn’t wasted my time and money with that year of slimming world!!

I first joined slimming world when I was 10, yes I was a little chunky but not huge! I remember a dinner lady at primary school giving me tips about loosing weight and to eat fruit with my cereal.

Did SW on/off throughout my teens but would just give up because eating and drinking with my friends was more fun. Did shakes then got gallstones because I had lost a large amount of weight so quickly, had my gallbladder removed and now have chronic IBS.

Last time I joined SW 3 years ago and had a gain the consultant said ‘well what have you done over the weekend to cause this?’ When I said I had stayed in all weekend and hadn’t eaten any off plan that entire week I knew I had to stop. It would cause me so much stress and guilt if I ate something ‘bad’ or I would have to schedule socialising at the beginning of the week so I could make up for it the rest of the week before being weighed.

The only good thing is that it made me get my hormones checked and turns out I have PCOS.

I joined SW for the first time 3 or so years ago. I weigh two stone more that I did when I joined.

I found my binge eating got completely out of control and I’m trying to get back to a balance.

I’m not entirely sure where I’m going to start but I want to eat normally. I would never recommend SW to anyone, I don’t know anyone who has kept the weight off.

I joined SW in March 2018. I went from 12st 6 to 8st 9 by last Christmas, but ive now put nearly 2 stone back on. It made my relationship with food pretty unhealthy to be honest! And I always felt pressure in the group to lose every week.
Now im in a position where Im really unhappy with how I look and I want to get the weight back off but I want it to be in a way in which ill enjoy and which is sustainable once I get to my goal too, but I dont know where to start.
And this is all coming from someone who is an ex consultant too. I got so sucked in and ran my own group for a few months 🙈

I lost just over a stone of SW before my wedding, once I didn’t haven’t that looming I really started questioning it and some of it is total bollocks, I know some basic nutritional science from my degree and some of the pseudo science was really annoying.

it always annoyed me how cooking fruit made it synned! I understand if you cook a massive portion of fruit to eat, but I liked cooking one apple to put on my porridge and because “heating it changes the sugars in it so there are more calories”, what a load of rubbish!

Also it annoyed me the most overweight people always won slimmer of the week because their losses were greater, it should be % body weight lost not just raw lbs. demoralising as I’ll never be able to lose 5+lb in a week unless I get D&V!

Keto is great and worked for me. It’s nice to not crave sugar. I did it for the cognitive benefits and to get rid of inflammation and knee pain. The weight loss was a nice bonus. It’s not for everyone but I feel it helped me not eat as much crap. I stopped after 3 weeks but to my surprise I havnt put the weight back on I just got used to eating certain foods very low carbs so I just still eat the same food without thinking about it.

when i was doing it the 1st time i won it once in the year and bit i went. me and my friend also used to say weve no hope ever gettting it when you get Men in the group (as they stop drinking for a week and lose nearly a stone) or some extremely obese peoples that lose more in1 week than most people do in a month !
ive given it uo again. it realky wasn't doing it for me this time.. i went in holiday and ate and drank what i liked including french stick and cocktails most days and i gained 2lb on my return (which i didnt think was bad).
ive just started re using the old my fitness pal log. .by eating normal food ive lost 4lb in 2 weeks ...think ill stick with this

I’m doing Keto at the moment (former slimming worlder - urgh) and I have to say I’m really enjoying it and finding that it works. Yes it is strict but that is what I need. I’m also exercising lots (and still loosing weight)! It used to annoy me so much that SW don’t really focus on exercise at all and in group when someone would gain my consultant would always blame it on doing too much exercise and tell them to do less - ridiculous!

I looked up this guy on YouTube thomas delauer he’s very knowledgeable on keto I hope it dsnt overwhelme you there’s a lot in the vids but it’s fantastic I lost loads of weight. You may also progress to omad & intermittent fasting which is such a life saver.
Check out Jason fung on YouTube.
I am no longer a slave to food.
Being aware of insulin spikes when you eat it stops the overeating.

thats what really annoyed me too ! when i did loose the 2 stone i did SW with exercise. i could really see the change to my shape especially my legs. telling people that they have gained as they've exercised is madness to me ...they should really be promoting it ..even if its getting member's walking as it can be beneficial to your mental health as well which lots of the ladies at the group I went to had struggles with. this should be talked about in these chats ..how positive a bit of getting active have be..

Agree OMAD and fasting has made all the difference to me - I tend to do this on the days I dont exercise! I even have the occasional McDonald’s just without a bun and I’m still loosing weight. It’s slower when I lost with SW but it’s steady and doesn’t fluctuate and I feel so much better in myself as I’m not eating sweeteners and junk food as syns!

It’s fantastic switching between the 3 isn’t it :) I’m so happy when I hear about someone doing keto.
My skin is so clear. I stopped doing it strictly had I havnt put the weight back on but I can feel my stomach getting inflamed so il do some fasting to help.
I just love it I havnt been in a bad mood since

Another ex slimming worlder. Been a member on and off since I was about 16 (I was a skinny little thing back then so god knows what I was thinking). Got stuck in a rut of carbs for every meal because felt like I couldn’t have other things. I couldn’t have a ready made salad because the dressing was full of syns so instead would make a big plate of pasta probably triple the calories.

I too have many bad habits with food because of it. Feeling bad for snacking on a rice cake but SW say I can snack on a whole packet of processed red meat instead because it’s free.

I just watch my calories now and make healthier choices and feel so much better for it.

Jason fung is excellent it really makes you realize how the body works.
He’s speaking out because if everyone did intermittent fasting they would not be spending as much on food and the food companies would lose billions.

I feel my relationship with food is even worse now than it was when I started it with all these weird rules swirling about in my head.

I would love to just eat a healthy, balanced diet where no food is good, bad or off limits but I cannot get my tit together 😭
You sound lost.
If you are an adult, I assume you can discern between bad habits and good ones and let go of what SW inculcated into you.
My suggestion is to go to a dietician and start enjoying food.
We struggle choosing what to leave out of our plate and in other parts of the world some die with no food at all to put on their plate.
