Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else experiences this!
Monday to Friday I am absolutely fine..come the weekend I have a fuzzy sore head verging on a migraine, nauseous, lethargic, but it is literally only at weekends! It bothers me so much that I can’t wait for the weekends to be over ☹ I’ve read online about this so called leisure sickness, and I’m just wondering if anyone else has this, and what relieved it for you?

Do you have a lie in at the weekends? If my husband has a lie in he always gets a really bad headache.

Yes I do and I know that contributes a bit to it because I don’t get it as much if I wake up at the same time as a weekday
They do say get up at the same time everyday. Also if my husband misses his morning coffee it gives him a headache. I always feel worse when I have a lie in and feel even more tired.

I'm like this whenever I have annual leave from work. It's like my body can let go of whatever illness its been holding off.

I read somewhere that it can be if you're stressed or busy in the week and then the weekend hits and you relax it gives you a headache. Probably not explaining it right but it mentions it on here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/headaches/10-headache-triggers/

Maybe trying to keep your routine similar like wake up and eat at the same times? My headaches are related to if i go too long without eating.

Also could try keeping a diary noting what you eat and drink, how much you sleep etc and see if you can spot any patterns. For example does your diet change a lot at weekends, or if you drink alcohol at the weekend a certain drink could not agree with you or could maybe cause dehydration or something?

Headaches are so complex! Especially migraines, trying to work out my triggers is a nightmare.

Do you drink less water at the weekend? I find that weekdays I will keep water on my desk and have regular tea brakes, but at the weekend I will have a coffee first thing then probably nothing else for hours, especially if I’m out and about then in the evening I’ll have a wine or something. That could be why you feel rough as I have to force myself to drink more water at weekends or I feel the same.

also do you spend more time on your phone? Looking down all the time can be bad for everything from your neck to your eyesight which can all cause headaches.

I have this every time my husband has annual leave from work. It’s like my body says you can get ill now because he is at home to look after the kids lol
In all seriousness it is a bit of a nightmare because it happens every time without fail. Does ruin the fun somewhat.

My son used to get tonsillitis everytime he was on school holidays. He was under the hospital for another problem and I mentioned it to one of the Dr's and they said it's when your body relaxes. Normally a lot of us are living on adrenaline with the stress of work etc and so when we relax on holiday it causes the body to become ill.

Not really! I do try really hard to make sure I’m drinking enough, but maybe I do need to be a bit more conscious of it!

Yes although I don’t have it to the same extent as you because I still live for the weekend lol. But yes lying in definitely makes it worse as does unintentionally drinking less water throughout the day.

If I’ve had a stressful day or a full day of presentations at work, I’ll be fine at the time but the minute I leave work I’ll suddenly have a banging headache verging on a migraine. Not great for after work drinks lol.

I also used to get it pretty much the minute after exams finished at school/uni. It’s like your mind and body enables you to keep going during the stressful time but the moment it’s over, something just gives and incapacitates you for a day or so.

I find staying hydrated and having a regular sleep pattern helps. I’m not great at following my own advice though.

I sort of get what you mean. I go to the gym during the week after working 8 hours and can do a workout no problem. But when I go Saturdays or sundays after doing very little I'm always feeling groggy, a bit sick. I think some of it is what a poster above mentioned - hydration! I drink lots of water while I work as I'm always up taking a little break and getting a drink, at least once an hour.

Someone mentioned it above also, when I go on annual leave I used to get sick, run down, so tired and even nauseous. Same when I have busy week at work I’m fine all week like running on adrenaline and come the weekend absolutely wiped. I think when your body relaxes all the physical tolls of the week come together.
I started having a really early night on a Wednesday, like at 7:30 which helped with this and totally switched off that evening, it made a huge difference.
