Yes @Socratestrap and @PlinyinTorquay I too concur that "not all contemporary art is bad..." In fact I am quite a fan of a lot of contemporary art and find Kylie's comments naive and ignorant and as though she has found them on a quick google search much like a struggling high school student might do to complete their compare/contrast assignment. Not all contemporary art is "cold, conceptual, made of utilitarian materials blah, blah blah" Dear Kylie please do not pretend that you actually know anything about art, it's embarrassing.

"Religious melodrama" ... not sure the Catholic instruction is going well. I think Church attendance is, for those who are religious, a profound sacramental connection with God! As @Jerry suggests K sure does have a talent for trivializing intense human experiences. This episode reminded me of one of my favorite lines from an odd movie called the Piano Teacher, by the German director Haneke. In the movie an attractive young protege is playing Schubert with much hubris, when the teacher cuts him down by saying, "you are too attractive to play Schubert, you can only paly soft to loud. Schubert was an ugly man and he played from a whisper to a scream." Seems to me that people who try to gain the attention of others by seduction, and who have no intention of actually entering into an amorous encounter with those they are trying to seduce, can never really achieve the depth of connection that being truly vulnerable elicits. Instead, they leave people, somewhat...unsatisfied.

As @Jerry said at some point in this long conversation, there is no beauty in teasing money out of people in a pandemic, or trying to seduce people into a dead-end business venture at this difficult time. It's really very ugly behavior and her moral compass is clearly a blunt instrument...just because you can ask, doesn't mean you should! I was incredibly touched by a video she made some time ago when she volunteered with a group who were rebuilding houses after the devastation of a natural disaster in the US (forgotten which one - my apologies). And I was also moved by the experiences of the man in this recent video, so I do think she has a soft side. However, she has not been seasoned by life, and hence, she does not have the capacity to truly elevate others. Moreover, she is not open to the criticism of others, and hence, cannot reflect and grow.

Finally...but not my area of expertise...in my view, not all contemporary art is bad, and not all baroque art is good. Might we say, Kylie is a traditionalist, but not an art critic! However, neither I am, so maybe I should be quiet on this front!
I have watched the first 2 minutes and doubt I will continue. The relgion comment is bizarre, as is the comment about people going to mass maybe once a year, considering she had never mentioned religion at all before the wedding. Her obsession with everything being better in the past is just grating. where on earth would her "career" be if she wasn't born with the technology of this day and age?

I haven't been able to watch more than 2 minutes. Guido...again. And it seems like she is doing the immediate translation again as well, which I find time wasting and irritating. Just pick a language and then put the subtitles, Kylie.
I am sorry but I find Guido as boring as...an accountant 😳

Yes, Denise. Greetings from hygienists’ waiting room. I find the immediate translation annoying too. Just as I hate people reading out text from a slide in PPT presentations in conferences and meetings!

If G was an item of stationery would he be a Manila envelope? If he were a city in the UK he might be Swindon. 😊

Also a question for the italians in the group (or anyone who has an idea) why do the family who own this theatre not make money by opening it to the public? I think it is pretty standard for once mega rich families who own such properties in the UK

So very true. I have long thought this but you have articulated it well @Socratestrap. What I find extraordinary is that many of her followers do not see it and think her so wise. I love your reference to The Piano Teacher. It also reminds me of that very sweet children's book, The Velveteen Rabbit, in particular the passage about becoming real ... The thing is, I do think K comes across as being fragile (for example, deleting Jerry's posts and others she doesn't like), having sharp edges and is one who has to be carefully kept.

“Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.'

'Does it hurt?' asked the Rabbit.

'Sometimes,' said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. 'When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.'

'Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,' he asked, 'or bit by bit?'

'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.”

“Religious melodrama...once a year”

Wow ! Some gall in a Catholic country whose culture she professes to cherish.

Personally, I would rather see a Rothko abstract expressionist painting than the ones she is gushing over in this video.

Well I thought her attitude towards the Priest, with regard to the wedding, was a bit off and disrespectful tbh. Still working myself up to the video ... it may take some time before I feel I can view it.

Yes, same! That made me raise a brow as well. Mainly coming from newly religious Kylie that evidently is a cherry picker Catholic, as we say. Whatever bits fit her own views....and image...evidently.
I still have yet to finish the video, maybe when I'm in a better mood. Hope the dental appt went ok.😬

P.s I loved the Veleteen Rabbit as a child; I just got a bit misty remembering it. That and Charlotte's Web both had loose pages from so many readings and getting taken everywhere.

First of all, it is about a Polish immigrant family with a villa in Siena. Just like KyLIE is looking for money, so are they; they have a family theatre that is expensive to restore.

Potato’s response to KyLIE’s gushing is that it would cost a lot to put in sprinklers.

The “concert” is a piano teacher who plays Chopin (also Polish) on a battered upright piano that has seen better days. No audience, no event, no play.

Her reading of a diary of a Polish soldier, who walks 40 miles a day in war, reminds her of her own viewers who send messages; she is positioning herself as guru to her admiring fans.

That’s about it !

Ah yes. I loved Charlotte's Web too and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe was a favourite of mine. Denise, I don't know if you are from the UK or would know a children's book called 'when Marnie was there' by Joan G Robinson. A supernatural story of sorts about a lonely orphaned girl who spends a summer in the north Norfolk coast. I read it so many times, even into adulthood, until it fell apart. One of the sweetest and most thoughtful gifts my late husband gave me was a first edition of the book. He noticed the crumbling volume on my bookshelves, did some research, and came across a bookseller who specialised in books set in Norfolk and got me this copy - currently in storage in the UK. I was immensely touched at the thoughtfulness of this gesture. 💕. Dental appointment fine and covered by my health insurance too! 😊

What does she say about the art, Jerry. This is the area where I am likely to be most critical and most pissed off! I can't say I understand this comparison between the Polish soldier and her viewers?

@PlinyinTorquay I don't know that book, but what a sweet thoughtful gift!

As @Jerry mentioned a page or so back, all art was at one point "contemporary." I really can't stand when people who simply dislike a style or movement and label it "bad" or unworthy. Ughh, this is why I'm not ready to go on with the video. She's so dismissive of things she actually doesn't understand and has developed such a clichè idea of "culture."

And boring Guido as @Rina Valtellina mentioned...😅 I used to enjoy his rare presence as a change from 'all Kylie all the time.' But now, what phrase can I use? Too much of a good thing? Familiarity breeds contempt? Lol. Now is in in virtually every video and they're like a Couple's Vlog channel, or seem to be heading that route.

It is the second one in a row I did not bother to watch until the end, even though the idea behind it sounded promising and I truly adore Siena. I do not get why Guido has to be included in every video now. He seems like a nice guy to me, but he does not add anything to the videos. The palazzo was beautiful, but that's about it. I felt mostly bored.

@Denise0211 We seem to have posted simultaneously, because you wrote exactly what I was thinking.

yeah, in lieu of the movie dialogue now it is just her reading from a book... loads of content

To be fair, despite the comparison to Swindon, I think G seems nice enough too.

Gosh I'm quoting too as it exactly mirrors what I would have said and ditto I only got halfway through - doesnt look as if anyone here has given it time till the end as yet. And ditto Guido, he really is tethered to the ground, poor soul. I had to stop before he asked how much would it cost to do repairs. In a lightbulb moment I realised all this was not about art or music but just to make money through the content for the palazzo & themselves and I found it sickening together with the 'my theatrical background' ..when..where? apart from pretending to be someone she isn't

@PlinyinTorquay @Denise0211 @emm @Jerry KyLie’s explanation of “classical” art versus “contemporary” art would badly fail a Visual Arts 101 essay 🙄 She has, unfortunately, taken on our comments about not including art/architecture/culture in her vlogs and made an awful mash up of art history and theory which only highlights her ignorance. We all expected something like this and by setting herself up as a kind of “authority” it makes it even more dismal.

Anyway, the discussion of art soon falls away into a strange mish mash of a piano player in an empty palazzo, an awkward “interview”, a lunch, Guido bringing his accountant’s expertise to the cost of renovating the theatre (the energy drained away with his flat estimation of 100k) and her lounging on a sofa reading the Polish soldier’s diary during the war (wearing glasses to make her look more serious and she’s got the heavy filters on after the chicken dinner flog)....All very disjointed and, professionally speaking, not well done at all 🙈

Btw Swindon is a very busy place - I would see him more as Tunbridge Wells. On the topic of towns, @PlinyinTorquay, Kingston must have evolved since I lived there and Bentalls was king -

She has tagged the palazzo in her instagram stories. Looks like they host events and weddings there. I don't know if that was talked about later in the vid as I fell asleep around about the time Guido said something about fires and 100,000 euros. So yes @Spirit of place I think you are on to something.
