Thought it was about time the windmill dwelling, kimono wearing, fox battering, lawsuit losing grifter had his own thread.
Is it too soon for a thread title suggestion?Jolyon Maugham, why do I laugh at thee? Let me count the ways
WAAAAAYYYY too soon, we need more Jollers Enjoyers to pitch in firstIs it too soon for a thread title suggestion?![]()
His voice sends me mad. It's his affected slow drawl and the way he elongated his S's. And his pompous large face.Thank Goddess - I just made a search thinking it was time this dude had his own thread!
Jolyon Maugham, why do I laugh at thee? Let me count the ways:
1. Like Owen Jones, Jollers is inevitably always on the wrong side of history. Not only that, but he's always reliably at least two years behind the front wave of the Latest Thing. e.g. he picked up trans at the very point that its darker and more abusives aspects were becoming publicly known. Likewise, he's now picked up Systemic Racism but picked the worst and most irrelevant example of it - Cambridge's immoral and deceitful manipulation of a severely vulnerable and mentally ill man to present itself as a champion of diversity, at the expense of truth, duty of care and academic standards.
2. Jollers is clearly a misogynist and ageist of the highest order. His visceral disgust for women, especially those past the age of about, oooh, 35, who unaccountably insist upon thinking for themselves, is well known and there are countless examples e.g. JKR, Barbara Rich, 'terfs' in general
3. He once threatened to "slide into the DMs" of a nasty misogynist bloke in order to further his pretence that he saw said bloke as a woman. In doing so he accidentally revealed that he regards all women as either disgusting old harridans (see point 2) or useful sex objects
3. He's got boggly eyes and a strangled voice.
4. He put on a lady's kimono, clubbed a fox to death and boasted about it on Twitter. This is clearly the action of a beta male with a severely puffed up ego and a pen which can only be viewed through the world's most powerful nanoscope.
5. His Good Law Project puts ego far above good law and he is a reliable loser of other people's money. In fact, he's just a really reliable loser.
6. Much like Owen Jones, he's getting more unhinged the more Ls he takes. He's recently taken to posting swivell-eyed rants against media publications which have the temerity to report on his many flaws, and most recently has threatened to 'take the fight to the throats' of The Times, Telegraph and Spectator. Oooooh, I bet they're quaking in their boots.
7. Speaking of The Times, Yuan Zi Zhu's review of Jollers's book, Bringing Down Goliath, is the second funniest thing I've ever read on the internet (the first funniest being Thread 31 of the Jack Monroe threads on this fine platform).
8. Despite all evidence to the contrary, Jolyon is not an incel in a basement. he is married with children, one of whom may or may not be trans, which would of course constitute a conflict of interest to his trans campaign, but he doesn't need to declare this of course because he's perfect
9. He's just so ODD. Weird jerky body language like a string puppet whose operator is both drunk and in the later stages of Parkinson's Disease. The boggle eyes and the strangulated voice. The desperation for fame matched only by the total lack of personability and rizz.
10. In short, it's rare to see such an enormous gulf between self-confidence and competence. Showing my age here but it's like if one of the deliberately crap early audition contenders of X Factor was shovelled into a barrister's wig and given a massive platform. It's painful. It's cringey. It's compelling. It's hilarious. I can't look away!
I think that's because he's a Kiwi but is trying to affect a posh English accent in order to sound like Rumpole of the Bailey or something. His voice sends me mad. It's his affected slow drawl and the way he elongated his S's. And his pompous large face.
(As well as the fact he's a horrendous twit obv).
Ah man. Not since the good old days of Mr Agreeable in the back page of Melody Maker has someone's a been taken to the cleaners more righteously than Yuan Yi did Jolyon. Gareth Roberts did a brilliant takedown on his Substack too. Worth the sub for that alone. In case anyone would like to revisit the delights of The Times review of his book
Bringing Down Goliath by Jolyon Maugham review - the pompous bloviating of a Twitter KC
The Good Law Project founder rose to dubious fame on Twitter. He should have stayed there, says Yuan Yi Zhu
