It's odd phrasing. I thought books were written under contract, not "commissioned"??? I am not a writer but I have friends who are ... never heard them use this expression.

Happy to be corrected by those who know more ...
I don't know how it generally works, but my son-in-law was commissioned to write a book on a very specialist subject by a small, prestigious publisher, as he is an expert in that particular narrow area and no-one has ever properly described it before.

My daughter has been contracted to write a book following submission of a proposal to the publishers.

I would also love to know what the actual publishing situation is. How can she have all these books already in the pipeline. How much money is involved? How good are her sales that they're fine to go ahead with more books before they've even seen how the latest will sell? Truly baffling. If someone told me she was paying THEM to let her release books, I'd believe it. You know like those 'models' who have just paid a photography company to picture them. That!

Is that Bluebird publishing place a charity or something?

How bloody good are the charity shops in Southend?! I'd love to know where she's finding this stuff. Can see the crappy bungalow is worth it's rent for the prime charity shop location 🤑 The ones by me typically have some PAT-tested blood pressure monitoring kit, St Michael bobbly t shirts that some poor old dear probably died in and Missguided fast fashion cast offs. And I suppose if you're really lucky, half a set of chipped royal albert crockery.
So true!

The woman lives like a king off of way above average charity shop finds and gifts from overly generous exes.

One girl whose house was so big and old it was open to the public and legit had a gift shop
This has me HOOT I don’t know why. I really want someone to open a gift shop in their normal terraced house. I feel like it’s something Vic Reeves or Bob Mortimer would do, except their houses are probably too FANCY these days.

Also all this talk of semi freddos means all I can think of is a chocolate Freddo with a semi. There is probably Freddo porn so I won’t Google.

It’s me.

Depends if the ‘writer’ has delusions of grandeur.
‘Commissioned’ is more for television writing, no @Emmapism ?
I love this idea of @Pocahontas commisioning all her books To keep all us Fraus entertained 😄

She’ll probably have been tied into a contract (very likely signed early on in her career, before she showed just how much of a liability she was) that she had to produce a certain amount of books within a certain amount of time. The publishers will be tied in just as much as her, so they’’re getting a book whether they want it or not 😅 and to be fair they probably do as they’ll have paid for it at least in part.

No matter how many times I see this pic, I never find it any less horrifying. The chaos!
Popping up from lurkdom to say hello Fraus. And Thankyou for the laughs and the incisive wit and investigation. This photo makes me wonder if Allegra had an anonymity clause on photos of her child as her frying pan dies cover the girl’s eyes. Or was it a coincidence?

There's another photo too where she has her back to the camera. Unlike Jack who doesn't seem to care about showing off sb.

Vegan(ish) was part of a two-book deal. Assuming the second one will be the budget 'bible'.

No idea where the poverty book fits in, though.
