I also hate the idea that just because somebody is working class (I don't know if this person even is) or because they're queer then that means they can do no wrong. I remember a while ago a TRA tagged JK Rowling on a tweet and she replied. The TRAs then spun this as her orchestrating a pile on to this tiny account via her millions of followers. Never mind that he had tagged her directly. So had she replied on these porn tweets they'd have said the same thing, that she was drawing attention to the porn via her large following. They are ridiculous and have tit for brains
This is the tweet that she reported. She even gave the person the chance to take it down.
It’s ridiculous, isn’t it? He deliberately removed all context in order to make a defamatory attack on her reputation and whip up negativity towards her.
She politely gave him an opportunity to reconsider and provided the missing context.

I must admit that I found 'The Casual Vacancy' a bit disappointing but I love the Strike series. The TV series is very well cast and enjoyable too. Tom Burke and Holiday Granger are excellent.
JK does have a tendency to make her books very long, which can put people off, but I recently read the last book in the Strike series and really enjoyed it.
And of course these bleeping morons have entirely missed the point that it wasn't JK tweeting vile things but hateful people attacking her

I am quite certain that gender dysphoria exists in a tiny minority of cases and that in some of those cases transition will ease the individual’s discomfort.

In my opinion she made Hermione rather snotty in the films. Although Hermione was never a favourite character of mine (too bossy and know it all for my liking).
Played by a different actress she might have been more likable.
She wasn't posh in the books, they cast a precocious public school kid, hermione is a geeky, insecure kid from a normal middle class family. She's certainly not got the confidence or poise Emma Watson had (but is almost certainly a better actress, but then so is Hermione's wand).
Strike Series 1 adaptation for The Cuckoo's Calling was good, I liked the characters, looking forward to seeing the next one after reading the book. Understandably the tv adaptation chopped and condensed some of the book to fit into 3 episodes but my husband also enjoyed it despite not reading the book.
I don't usually read crime detective books but I can see the Strike series getting me into the genre more.

I honestly expected this thread to be the opposite because that is basically all I've seen on the internet lately... but I just don't understand the bashing and cancelling and deliberate misquoting stuff. The responses were truly hilarious lol.
I'm a big fan of Strike and love the foil of Robin for his character. The show is great, though the details in the books really make it more interesting for me. I recommend the audiobooks as well!

I can't even mention that I like HP because people want to argue about it and think they know the situation, but have only read tweets by others calling JKR a terf... so they call her a terf too. A few pages back someone mentioned people leaving a conversation without explaining their POV because they felt unsafe and attacked. I have witnessed this multiple times. The strangest place this happened for me was on the goodreads page for Troubled Blood before the book was even released where a trans person claimed that people were attacking them because they were offended and other people don't get to decide what's offensive to a trans person... meanwhile there were other trans people in the comments saying the original comment had nothing to do with being trans... it was bizarre and nonsensical.
*SPOILERS FOR TROUBLED BLOOD: I read multiple reviews and articles (stemming from and quoting one other review published in the days before it came out) that said the serial killer in the book was trans and JKR was intentionally implying that trans people were dangerous... when that is not the case at all. If they had read the book, they would realize that the character is very much a straight man who abducts, rapes, and kills women, but pretends to be a comforting friendly face... possibly less threatening because of his small stature, to attract said women. I believe it's mentioned that he may have worn or borrowed a woman's coat which is used to link several possibilities within the story together. END SPOILER*
