I didn’t realise he was on about co-parenting until he specifically started ranting about it later on as a way to deflect from his choice of lesbian for baby making purposes (not the transwoman kind). His initial tweets seemed to be just him saying he wanted to be a dad, the other guy telling him to “get a lesbian or two” and Jones then “hunting for bloody lesbians”. Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong but I didn’t see the word “co-parenting” anywhere in those initial tweets.

He seems to be using the “don’t you misogynistic homophobic terfs know what co-parenting is” in a patronising way to avoid answering any questions about what kind of lesbian (ie the female kind) he needs to hunt down to have a baby.

Yes, that’s true. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt even though I think men like OJ have a tendency to see women as a commodity that comes in handy when they need a womb.

Saw this on Twitter this morning, sums up the situation well... would love to see Owen explain his way out of this one

Just had a look, of course he's a socialist with his pronouns in his bio haha. Interesting that their are no tweets mentioning a trans man, or no acknowledgment that maybe his tweet was phrased poorly. Just "you homophobic terfs don't want me to have a kid!". Some of the replies are a bit overboard from GC people, but he's clearly deflecting.

I can see the response now... "So you TERFs don't believe women who have gone through the menopause / had hysterectomies / are infertile are women"
They are the people who reduce women to ‘cervix-owners’ and ‘womb owners’ - women are multitude, but all are female.

Yup. Of course there are women who can’t for whatever reason carry a child, but just because she unable to fall pregnant doesn’t mean her womb and ovaries disappear. She’s still has them, she’s still female. It’s not the act of being carrying a child, it’s having the organs that would enable to do so. Does that mean infertile men aren’t men? Or that men who have testicles removed as cancer treatment aren’t men? Of course not, he still has a penis and just because his tescicle/s was/were removed doesn’t mean they didn’t exist. Just because a woman has had a hysterectomy doesn’t erase the fact she had a womb and ovaries in the first place, and just because a woman goes through menopause and can’t get pregnant doesn’t mean her ovaries and womb disappear.

I hope that makes sense, I’ve not had my coffee yet to function properly.

Despite all this evidence that supports a difference between the sexes and bodily functions, I bet they still wouldn’t take notice of it. They don’t let little things like facts get in the way of their beliefs...!

I don’t see anything wrong with co-parenting but I personally think the way he phrased it indicates all that is wrong with it (in this one case, not generally). The ‘hunting for lesbians’ really is just a disgusting turn of phrase and really not one you’d use to talk about the potential future mother of a child you want to co-parent - where is the respect? With lots of these men, like the annoying Pink News guy who was really thoroughly dictating the role he wanted his surrogate to have in this child’s life before he even found one, it seems like it’s all got to be on their terms. Pink News guy (sorry I think my brain decides not to know his name because I dislike him so much) was literally demanding a surrogate who wanted to be involved in the baby’s life. No recognition at all how hard it might be to give up a baby and maybe it would be too hard to be involved.
It’s also annoyed me that they said ‘a couple of lesbians’ why does he need a couple? Like others have said, why not a single transman? Seems to me like he’s just out to cause trouble tbh.

I’m anti-surrogacy, so I’ll give him a glimmer of respect in that at least he wants to find women to co-parent with, rather than renting a woman’s body like it’s no big bloody deal.

I wish more gay men would go down the co-parenting or adoption route. The recent wave of entitlement from both gay and straight couples to have a baby via surrogacy is absolutely gross. Parenting is a privilege, not a right, and until we have a medical system that isn’t misogynistic and racist and treats birth mothers like tit on a shoe, surrogacy can never be a positive option.

I just think it’s interesting for people who are supposedly anti biology when it comes to trans stuff, they seem to acknowledge it and value it when it comes to having a child that is ‘theirs’. Biology exists then. While I would never say to someone ‘just adopt’ there is a marked absence of any consideration of this being an option for them to even pursue. They believe in biology when it suits them.

Absolutely. And they’re often “pro science” in every single way... except acknowledging biological differences between the sexes exist.

It’s a bizarre, deliberate blind spot.

I'm only for surrogacy if say there's a good dynamic between each party, a friend wanting to do this for a couple she's friends with for example and the couple being grateful+offering the option of co-parenting. It's only when people treat it as a baby making machine and not a person helping you out that I don't like it.

This is why the US system and UK system is very different. I read the whole series of articles on surrogacy by Sophie Beresiner in the times - she tried both systems and ended up in the UK with a truly altruistic and remarkable woman as a surrogate. The US system was driven purely by money and potential surrogates deceived them and let them down because it wasn’t working but they still wanted to get paid.
eta no co-parenting in this situation

He wants a “couple” of lesbians because then Saint Owen of the Real Labour Left will be bestowing upon them the gift of life, for which they could not obtain otherwise. /s And with the “co-parenting”, the couple will do most of the work while he dips in and out.

I’m against surrogacy for all.
Why on earth would a pair of lesbians want him anyway
