I only read the book on Saturday while away then saw the film on Wednesday and much prefer the book.

I thought a lot was left out too but my TikTok is now full of interviews with Blake Lively as the PR and I just think they’re awful, especially compared to Justin Baldoni’s! Not a Blake fan anyway but really not liking her now, and didn’t think she was a great fit for Lily anyway. I saw someone saying Rachel McAdams would’ve been good, and I think someone like Sadie Sink could’ve been good. I also liked young Lily and felt like she could’ve been a good fit for the main role. I know Colleen Hoover has apparently said she regrets making the characters young in the book but I think that’s why I related to the book, having been in an abusive relationship at 18-20 myself.

I also felt like Atlas wasn’t in the film enough considering he had such an impact on Lily. I know maybe that’s because it wasn’t a rom com despite the marketing so the focus should be on Lily, but it didn’t feel true to the book!

I loved the book and have to say enjoyed the movie even with all its flaws. Its defo worth going to see.
Blake was so miscast in this, I was so disappointed when it was announced she would be playing lily.
The guy playing Atlas was a good actor but not how I imagined he looked.
I imagined Theo James as Ryle, and so did everyone else on the internet.
They missed a trick casting an unknown as Lily and atlas, thats what made Twilight so special at the time, the excitement of brand new actors.
Not a Blake fan at all and will give any of her future projects a miss, shes not a nice person.

I read the book, in 2 minds whether to see the film I just don’t know if I can invest in the character with all the negativity from the press tours

I really enjoyed it. Is it worth after seeing the film going back to the book?
If you haven’t read the book 100%. There’s so much more intensity to both relationships and development of characters. The film didn’t do justice the power that Atlas held over Lily and Ryle’s relationship. He wasn’t featured enough in the film but I understand it is hard to replicate.

In the book, I was heartbroken when she makes her decision at the end as I was torn just as much as her to what she should do. I was with her every step but the film, it washed over me a little. Perhaps that’s because I knew.

The book is a lot more intense with the final DV though so a trigger warning.

Thank you. It came yesterday so can't wait to get into it

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I just finished the book and thought it was fantastic. Surprised by the ending although I am team Atlas. Should I watch the film? The reviews don’t look great. Also anyone read ‘it starts with us’? I’m going to start it tonight.
