Is this acceptable?

Just curious to know your thoughts… if you had a hair dressers appointment booked for 4pm and you still weren’t seen by 4:30, would it be acceptable to complain if no one mentioned it or even apologised?

Thoughts?

It depends for me. How busy is the salon? can you see that they're running around or is it quiet?
Two members of staff, both are doing hair. Bit agitated as I arranged for a lift that I gave petrol money for to get here on time. Still haven’t been seen… getting a bit agitated now.

Yeah I can see your point. Is it worth asking how long it is until you're seen as the appointment was for 4? Not necessarily a complaint but just a "is everything okay as my appointment was 4pm and I've been waiting almost an hour?" Then go from there.

I’m too anxious to say anything but I’m getting annoyed as I’m going to a birthday dinner later and now I’ll probably end up being late..

I think the fact that no one has apologised or explained why they are running late is unacceptable.
If you haven’t paid I would be tempted to leave

have you paid? Could you just leave and chalk it up to a major loss for the petrol money?
I didn’t style my hair properly this morning and will be heading straight there, I can’t really not have it done now. Still not been seen and feel stuck either way :(

When I walked in, they said they were running a little behind. I thought they’d be 20 mins tops, but it’s nearly an hour later. Pissed off is an understatement.

what does your hair look like? does it need washing or anything? Could you sort it with a bottle of hairspray and a nice up-do with something that you can grab from a chemist? If you're too anxious to complain and can't leave I don't really know what else to suggest. You're justified in complaining you've been sat there an hour!

It’s greasy as hell. I deliberately left it as I knew I would be getting it done today. Since them saying they were running behind when I walked in, no one has said a peep to me. It desperately needs washing and styling. At this rate I’m tempted to go home and just be late, at least I’ll save myself the money. I’m just pissed off I’ve waited over an hour now…

they’re busy so I don’t want to comment, but if I stay I might mention it’s not good to be kept waiting for this long..

yeah and you don't know how long you'll be waiting at this rate. Might be faster to do it at home

Just walk out and get off to your dinner. No one will notice your hairs not been done honestly.

I haven’t washed it for a week 😂

I’m giving it to 5:15 and will ask. I’ll keep you all updated. I am fuming though, haven’t even been offered a cup of tea…

Update: they washed my hair at 5:10, I’m not sat waiting for it to be blow dried. No apologies for the delay once I went over for it to be washed. Feel like a right idiot and so angry.

Bloody hell. You’re more patient than me, I’d have said something to them at 4.15pm. Not rude, but just “I have somewhere to be after this, do you have an estimate time for me please?” and if the answer wasn’t within the next 10 minutes I’d have said I’m sorry I can’t wait that long, and left!

they’ve given you terrible service absolutely, but you have to take a wee bit of responsibility for yourself instead of sitting there winding yourself up more. I say this being exactly the same a few years ago and it’s so counterproductive letting yourself get wound up instead of just saying I’m not happy with this/leaving/asking for discount.

Hope the hair was nice for your night out , that they at least gave you discount and enjoy your night!

You really should have got up and said something - you sat there for over an hour allowing them to completely ignore you, and then you say you’re so angry…. I don’t get it? They probably assumed you were happy to wait for them - they told you there was a bit of a wait to be seen, you didn’t ask how long, nor did you explicitly tell them you have somewhere else to be. Granted, they were taking the piss being an hour behind schedule but lord above, you have to stand up for yourself! I would have asked how long the wait was, and if I hadn’t then been seen in half an hour of the appointment I would have got up and said that I would be leaving if I wasn’t going to be seen in the next 5 minutes. I don’t understand what’s to be gained from sitttng there in passive silence for over an hour….?

I can see the OP's issue here. I used to get such bad anxiety over things like that cause I have terrible social skills (autism) so wouldn't know how to go about asking. I've got better as I've got older so now I would have said "is everything okay? How long will the wait be as I have somewhere to be?" If it wasn't feasible I'd have just said that I would have to leave and apologise and then said it's fine when they apologised.
It's easy now cause I know the social rules of it so to speak but when I didn't it was a minefield and made me really anxious.
