Is contacting brands worth it?

I have never directly contacted a brand to call out any particular influencer but I know many on here have. I’d like to think it’s worth it and I have seen some action as a result of issues being shared around particular individuals but generally speaking , what do
People think? I have a real bee in my bonnet about people
Getting freebies & the business then expecting hard working customers to pay whilst little wanna be famous Susan gets things for free . I really want to contact some places and tell them this. Not big brands necessarily, but smaller more local businesses I feel I want to tell them they are putting me off by handing out to these gormless idiots . Am I a boring old hag? Is it worth it? Thoughts … if it was my business I wouldn’t want a bunch of free loaders being my marketing ..

Influencer marketing is a legitimate advertising strategy, like it or not. So I don’t think it’s fair to contact brands simply to tell them that you don’t like it. If a particular influencer is being shady or is less than reputable then that’s a different story, and they should be taken to task on using scum bags to advertise for them.

Honestly, just hit the brands where it hurts. Don’t purchase from the brands who keep gifting influencers and they’ll eventually get the message if enough people do the same.
I used to spend so much on jo Malone products, like eye watering amounts. Then they begun gifting to so many people that I decided I’m no longer going to pay top dollar for these things to fund the company giving them away to people who usually don’t appreciate them.

I wouldn’t actively contact the companies as they really won’t give a hoot, but I have provided feedback when asked. For example hello fresh were trying to promote their services in Australia shopping malls a few years ago, when they cornered me trying to get me to sign up, I used to say no and when pressed for why, I just told them. Whether they passed on that feedback or not, who knows but it felt good having a legitimate reason.
Same if I’ve ever been to baby shows etc. influencers just seem to cheapen most brands so I do believe a time will come in the not too distant future where there’ll be a shift and consumers will wake up.

Interesting replies. I wonder as small business owners though does the thought Occur to them that a chunk of their market will be driven away by it. If I had a cafe or a hotel or small store I think I would hate knowing that. Oh I don’t know the whole thing just drives me crazy.
 
I've done it before with an influencer who was posting almost naked photos of his twins on facebook. Just said that it reflected badly on the company. Hule and another bed brand deleted my comment . Less respect for them unlike M&S who let my comment stand when I was complaining about their changing room polices.

I don't think complaints make any difference unless you have a millions of followers as this will influence.

Sam Faiers has been paid 3 million pound by tesco to exclusively promote her baby bath brand.


Hello fresh have not only paid hundreds of celebrities to push their brand they also give more food freebies to wealthy celebrities than they do foodbanks.

Mark Wright and all his family get free iPhones

You're better off just boycotting the brand

I would imagine big company's probably wouldn't really care, I've seen enough clowns getting things an I feel like surely the company's must know that these people are bad images but because of the following they have then they simply don't care because at the end of the day its still being seen by hundreds, it's only when they do somthing that's going to massively backfire on the company that they then drop them like if they are racist/sexist/child porn etc otherwise if they are just being a complete duche they ignore them an continue with the freebies so long as they give them a shoutout

Usually with smaller brands it's a bit harder because as much as some people might hate the person then they need to look at it from a financial point of view like is it worth losing someone with say 50k followers because a minority don't like them over keeping them an it still being seen by a potential of 50k people

It's all money an profit with company's an the sad thing is they will always seek out people with large followings to get freebies so long as they agree to give them a shout out, which usually means influences as they know its going be seen by a larger audience than if it was just some regular telling their friends an family about it

Unless it's someone that does somthing that really is bad for the company or is generally a nasty person or has done somthing that should have them dropped or even arrested then I don't bother complaining as the chances of the company doing anything is slim to be honest
