Is 100k the new 10k?

I remember when 10k followers on Instagram was huge and some really nice accounts hit the big swipe up number. Nowadays it feels like the blandest of accounts have 10k+ followers and actually 100k is now the big number to hit (if that’s what you are into).

I follow some accounts who are nice but really quite plain and have 50k+ followers. My brain can’t process it. What do you think?

I agree, some accounts have 10k and can't for the life of me understand why. But more and more accounts are buying likes and followers so it's no surprise the bigger numbers are the ones to aim for. Even some really crap accounts have 5k now, it's like 5k is the new 500!

To be honest followers is meaningless these days. So many have tens of thousands but such tiny engagement. If they've built up 100k over 5 years I doubt any more than 5% actually see their posts in their feed.

10k used to be a thing as you get access to swipe ups then #affilate
