Remember when youtubers almost entirely referred to those who watched their videos as “viewers” ? Thinking of them as “fans” was actually a massive no no ... now almost entirely, and without anyone batting an eyelid, even the most likeable down to earth creators talk about their “fans.”
That says a lot about how much has changed. Early days of YouTube really was about sharing your content with contemporaries. No one was more important than anyone else. Now it’s about achieving some cheap, supermarket brand version of fame, honouring your ‘fans’ with ‘free’ content that conveniently also makes you money. And by definition having fans makes you a celebrity.

I’ve noticed a few of the Instagram influencers have started taking ‘days off’, and patting each other on the back about how much they deserve it.

I suspect it’s because they’re struggling for content without their endless shopping trips to buy more & more crap to show off to people. Just goes to show that they don’t have all that much to talk about when they’re not trying to flog tat.
