We have the IKEA wardrobes. I think they are brilliant, we designed them all ourselves with the drawers and different bits inside and we love them. We’ve had them for over three years now and there’s not a thing wrong with them.

We got them as we didn’t have the space for much else (we went with sliding doors) and custom made could cost £2-3k. They are very sturdy, interchangeable with lots of options and I’m really pleased with them. I think in years to come we may upgrade the doors to refresh the look.

Probably the most common wardrobe of the decade. Thinking of kitting out one of our spare rooms but I am dubious.

Is it really worth it? Especially compared to having something bespoke made?

Any tips, tricks, do’s, dont’s???

We have them in our bedrooms and think they are a great budget friendly choice. Personally I wouldn’t bother with the gimmicky things like jewellery trays, etc but spend the money on extra drawers instead. The baskets are good if money is tight and you can always upgrade to drawers later if you want. Love that you can redo the interior as needs change.
We put the first one together ourselves, it wasn’t particularly difficult but it took two of us all afternoon to put up the frame and sliding doors. The next room we paid for their fitter to do them and he had finished in just over an hour! It was worth every penny. If you do have the fitter though, be warned they charge a percentage of the purchase cost of the items being built so it makes sense to put the easy bits such as drawers, hanging rails etc together yourself if you can do them and just have the fitter do the frames and doors.

Brilliant value. I have some mirrored doors which look great. I've been using IKEA wardrobes for years and cannot fault them one bit. Especially now as they have such a good range of organisation rails etc.

Has anyone had the normal doors instead of the sliding doors?

Also any “must haves”? E.g fancy pull out drawer for my bras or something

We have the normal doors on my sons wardrobes and they are good sturdy doors.

In my daughters it is a large double wardrobe with sliding doors (space limited) on one side she has two rails so can have two rows of her thousands of tops !! on the other side she has one rail and then 4 inbuilt slim draws for underwear etc this goes about halfway up the side so she has shorter hanging area halfway across and then a longer area.....

My son has a triple one..... with draws along the bottom inside with baskets to keep shoes in etc..... and again the draws inside for underwear and one with a longer hanging area.....

You can basically ask them to do what you want and they'll do a mock up on the computer and you can change stuff around... it's really good concept as you can literally have it to suit your own needs

I've got these in my kids rooms (young adults).... like poster above we designed them specifically for their needs..... as long as they are put together well they are very sturdy and when you can go back in store they will help you to design it to suit you and do a mock up - they then print of a list of all the items needed.... right down to handles... my daughter had the sliding doors and she's got lights inside hers with double rails for extra space ...... I think they are great value .....
