How common are false positives?

Hi guys,

I'm due my period tomorrow but decided to take a test (I'm actively TTC)

It was a clear blue rapid detection one and showed up well within the 3 minutes.

It was the only test in the house so I went up to Morrisons and grabbed their own brand (about half an hour later so hadn't held my bladder for too long) and it was negative.

How common are false positives? I've attached a pic for you guys to see!

I don’t think false positive results are common, I’d say you are pregnant!! The Morrison’s test is probably just not as sensitive and as you are pretty early it’s maybe just not picking up as well as the ClearBlue.

I’d say you are pregnant!! 😁

Eek I hope so! I've waited so long for this moment but I'm scared to get my hopes up yet!

False negatives are much more common than false positives! I’d say you are pregnant! Congratulations :)

False positives are pretty rare as you need the hCG in your body for it to detect pregnancy. Often a chemical pregnancy can be mistaken for a false positive if testing very early, as you were pregnant, but then you go on to have what seems like a period, so some women often think the test was wrong but actually they were pregnant but had a very, very early miscarriage (I looked into this a lot when I couldn’t believe my own tests!). I would take this as 100% positive! Congratulations!

Extremely rare to get a false positive, you have to have the HCG hormone for the tests to react ☺ I was told the very few false positives are from people reading the evaporation line after leaving it too long.
I'd take this as a positive, know it's hard to believe when you've been trying. I'd get a other clearblue and test with first urine morning tomorrow too though!
Congratulations!!!

Thanks! I've had more than one chemicals but when I've tested it's always been faint lines, that's the first unmistakeable not a squinter, but still reluctant to believe it because it's so early 🙈

I wouldn’t say that’s a ‘false positive’ (normally evap lines are perceived as a positive) because that line has got plenty of colour 👶🏻

Congratulations 🥰

Lots of petrol stations sell tests, usually the pricy clear blue ones if you’ve got one near by if you want to try again... congratulations xx

That looks too dark to be false! Could be the other test just wasn’t a long enough hold, try again in the morning 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Fingers crossed this is it for you, very exciting! Will be following for you next test!
