Hey just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for home gym equipment please. I’ve cancelled my membership as I just don’t get time to go anymore and well, it’s shut!

I follow apps and YouTube etc but fancying buying an exercise bike or a cross trainer. I don’t want to spend a silly amount but I want something that’s decent and not flimsy but don’t know where to look.

If it helps - I really want to tone my legs up mainly!

Resistance bands, hip circles and a set of kettlebells or dumbells are really all you would need for a decent circuit. You can use items around the house as well. Skipping is also good if you’re able to do that! You don’t need to spend a load of money at all 💪

I’ve got a treadmill and an eleptical from NordicTrack ... really happy with them. I also have les mills on demand subscription which is great

I bought my dumbbells before the last lockdown in October. They’re adjustable, screw on weight plates, so I have a good range of weights. Have a look for York weights on eBay/Amazon. Resistance bands are great too. I have an exercise bike from Argos which was under £100. I have cancelled my gym membership too!

I bought a spin bike in the original lockdown and it is amazing I use it almost daily. I bought mine on Amazon for just under £200.

In terms of weights, right now you can't seem to get them for love nor money. A single pair of dumbbells is over £50.
There may be some 2nd hand ones around but they are going for a fair amount.

Highly recommend the resistance band sets that have the handles and door anchor. You can get them for around £15 and can do many different workouts and lots of youtube tutorials.

Also at the moment if you spend £25 at myprotein you get a free 30 day trial for FiiT.

I don't think you need very much. If you do strength training, you need dumbbells, fitness bands, but you can also work with your own weight. Look at the workouts on youtube, there are enough water bottles there too.

Im looking for a spin bike would you mind sharing the link please? Thank you! X

Does anyone have a treadmill they could recommend? My partner wants to get one but doesn’t want to pay too much.

A decent treadmill is not cheap, even more so at the moment- how much are you calling cheap?
Yeah that’s true. I was hoping we’d get one around the £300 mark maybe? Not sure if I’m being unrealistic though, some of the ones he’s seen are £800+ which seems like a lot of money especially at the moment!

Keep an eye out on gumtree aswell, people usually sell them for pretty cheap on there, I picked a decent one up for £100

You can get a Reebok one for £400, you have to catch them in stock first, though. Argos and Very are getting stock in February so I reckon more will be back in the end of the month. Worth checking frequently because stuff comes and goes.

I use to go to the gym (not enough!) and as soon as it closed due to lockdown, I came across Les Mills app. It’s amazing as there are so many workouts! It says you don’t have to have equipment, but I think you need a few hand held weights and a mat - but depends what workouts you are into. I’ve done Body Pump at a gym in the past and loved it, so I’m glad that’s an option.

It costs me around £8 a month and I was paying £44 for a gym membership before! (Eek!)

I recommend Aldi special buys or Argos for weights, kettlebells and mats :)

I second Les Mills - so many options on the app.

ive Found that if you keep an eye on Argos stuff does come back in stock, I managed to pick up a 40kg barbell/dumbbell set last lockdown as I kept checking back just in case - I would guess that the same would happen for other gym stuff to if that helps

Someone please help me.

I've become a porker, my belly overhangs but isn't completely overhung if that makes sense..... I was 20 stone 12 when I first weighed last week and have began walking every day for at least an hour with dieting, no fizzy or sugary drinks, cutting out snacking and eating half as much as I used to. I used to eat all day and for the sake of it when not even hungry. I like to eat until I am actually full up every time and then I feel satisfied, so this has been a challenge. I now am forcing myself to drink more water and eat little amounts til I'm not full but not hungry. This is hard but I'm doing my best. I now weigh already 20 stone 3 a week later.

If I continue eating healthy and under my calories, walking every day for an hour and I am looking at buying a home gym multi-gym kit, can I lose my belly flab ? I just feel it's impossible and am so upset I let myself get to this stage..... I hate that I have a flabby belly as it's gonna be impossible and harder to lose 😦😖😣 I don't believe that I can lose the belly and it's making this all hopeless and pointless for me 😔 Is it possible and can it be done just by walking and eating less calories and workouts at home ? I'm looking at getting something along the lines of the 6x bench or equipment like that...... I have tree trunk legs and bingo arms but they don't bother me as much as my hanging belly.

to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you’re consuming. Unfortunately you can’t lose weight from specific parts of your body.
A good place to start might be by changing what your meals are made up of - veg and fruit and less calorie dense than other foods so maybe you could look at switching some of what you’re eating to vegetables as they have less calories by volume.

calorie counting is also a good way to make sure you’re eating less than you’re burning.

there’s a weight loss and healthy living thread too maybe take a look at that

Thank you so much for your reply, that's what I've started doing. For dinner, I eat protein, a little carbs and fill half of my plate with mixed veg. A snack and other meals consist of mostly fruit, I am definitely consuming less calories than I used to and am also walking daily as well as about to workout. My stress and worry is that none of this will get rid of my belly overhang. I don't mind arms and legs as they're easier to tone up with walking and workouts, it's apron belly that I'm worried I can't get rid of 😔
