Hi, I know this thread hasn’t been very active but I’m bumping it. I have deregistered one of my children from school quite recently. I’m not anti-school generally. I have an older child who sailed through MS and is just about to sit her A Levels.
My 12 year old is another matter. She has autism and ADD and spends most of her time stressing about assemblies or the ever present threat of the fire drill. The school keeps moving her in and out of different sets. They originally put her in the learning support group, then they decided she was ‘too bright’ for that group and moved her into another set. She then found that she could not engage in that group, got moved back and then the cycle repeated itself.
I seem to have quite a thriving HE community near me and we are also blessed with living near some lovely countryside areas for Forrest school opportunities. I’m also looking at various other options and we’ll see what suits her but she seems much more enthusiastic about the options I’ve presented her with. I’m also going to be focussing on helping her with social skills - a need that currently is not being met at school.
I get the impression that LAs are becoming difficult about home educators. I know from past experience that many of them don’t trouble themselves with understanding legal guidelines.
