Henry Hoover - my Mother wants one

My Mother is 90, she's pissed off with her existing Hoover and wants to get a Henry Hoover.
My Brother and I are buying one for her for Xmas, yes I know it's a strange present but that's
how we roll.

I would like to hear people's experience on any of the Henry Range because I know there are
many models, I'm aiming for the Henry Xtra.

The only reason I got a henry is I absolutely can't bear the sound if noisy hoovers. Its really lo fi in that respect but the added bonus is that it picks up really well too. The only downside I would imagine is if you're tight on storage space as they're quite bulky comapred to those skinny stand up ones. I'm lucky because I have a good size cupboard under the stairs.
The cleaning contracters at my work also use them too.

I’ve got a Hetty and she’s pretty amazing, sucks up most of the crap my kids leave laying around the house.
Only problem is she tips over a lot if I’m going round the corner to fast not due to excitement (just gagging to get the chores done to sit down and do bugger all instead), apart from that she does her job, had her 4 years now and she’s still sucking strong! 👍🏼

Sorry, I should have added, my comment relates to the red henry hoover.

Not about a Henry, but a robovac is some of the best money I've ever spent.

You just keep the floors clear and tell it to clean everytime you leave the house and then you don't need to hoover other than the sides every couple of months

I have to admit I nearly pissed myself when I saw the entire range, I mean just WOW!

I have a hetty and she's fab. I like that she has a super long hose, but I bought her 2nd hand off gumtree so I don't know if that length of hose is standard.
I agree with someone upthread who said she tips over (the hoover, not the poster:m) if you aren't careful, but it just means watching out when you bop round a corner .... just make sure to grab the hose closer to the machine rather than by the end of the hose when going round corners. Pick up is great though. She's not exactly a space saver, she's a chunky little monkey, so you need decent room in a cupboard for her.
Also, the cord is not retractable like most hoovers, you actually have to physically wind it in via a little rotating knob on top of the machine, so that might be annoying for a 90 yr old.

We have the xtra. Much better suction than the Dyson we had before it. It is very heavy though, so lugging it up and downstairs is a pain. I've bought a cheapo 2 in 1 stick vac for quick cleanups to save having to get the Henry out. I find it quite cumbersome but it does pick up well. Might be a bit too heavy for a 90 year old.

Edit, I was an official tester of the Henry Allergy model, which is a lot smaller but just as efficient as the Xtra. Maybe have a look at that one.

I have had a Henry Hound since 2004, it is still going strong. Love it, find the suction very strong. We replaced the short bit of pipe on the front when it broke a couple of years ago. It was only about £3.00, really easy to find and fit. Much prefer it to the Dyson we were given by my in laws.

Thanks for the input from you all, weight really isn't an issue because Mum only hoovers when I'm around so if she needs help I'm there.
I'm a little concerned she might trip over the bloody thing but she really wants to give it a go, Mum has a friend who has one and she's
around the same age.

I love my hetty (had a Henry before too) stupidly bought a shark that’s like a toy and rubbish after a few months. Honestly though they are heavy my mums only in her 60s and had to get rid as if you have a thick carpet it’s really hard to use.

My mum bought a Henry about six months ago and she absolutely loves it. Says it's the best hoover she's had by far and well worth the money. It is heavy but despite approaching 70s she says she manages okay with it.

Seems like a good buy from my experience.

I love my red Henry, he's a good little sucker and gets rid of my dog hairs a treat 🤣🤣 seriously, mum should be ok if you're always around anyway.

We have a Henry. It's bulky and I find it can be quite heavy to carry, although easy to lift, if that makes sense? I have cerebral palsy and find it easy to pick the hoover up, it's also lightweight enough to topple over if going around corners, but my arms are tired by the time I've carried her up and down the stairs. It is really long lasting though IMO. Our old Hetty Hoover carked it about two months ago, she was ten years old.

I’ve had the red, pink and blue Henry’s (kids choice) but right now we have the Henry xtra
its not worth the extra money-we’ve paid £30 extra for what is an extra head and it’s so noisy when hoovering and it doesnt really pick up dog hair (we don’t have pets but have loads visit us)
the other heads are fine
i do love a Henry-they are great hoovers-just heavy when taking them up the stairs and they hate corners

I’ve got a Hetty...have loved it for years and preferred it over the shark. Picks up well and doesn’t try to do anything fancy it’s just a nice solid hoover. It is however heavy on stairs and can bang off the walls a bit if you’re not careful whilst hoovering. Can be heavy to take in and out of cupboard.

Got a cordless dyson and far prefer it but it could be slightly heavy for someone elderly, I also think the Hetty/Henry could be heavy for someone elderly to pull about. Maybe a really lightweight cordless one?

Good luck!
