Hi all, has anyone had a (female) flexible cystoscopy to look inside the bladder? I have an appointment for one next Monday and I'm absolutely petrified :( the thought of something going up the pee hole makes me feel physically sick and I've read that it's to be expected to pee blood and feel a burning when I pee afterwards. I've cried so many times over the past few days thinking about it. Bleh 😢

Hi sorry can't give any insight to the procedure you're having, but I have to have a not very nice gynaecology procedure every year. If you can take some strong pain killers half an hour before procedure, if you're allowed to, to take someone with you for moral support and I know it's hard but try to stay calm and not over think things. Good luck.

I had one done a few years back. I too was dreading it. It’s a really fine wire and I’m not going to lie it is a bit uncomfortable but they made sure there was plenty of lubrication on the camera. It did feel for about a day after like I had a UTI, like running the loo etc. It was over within a matter of minutes.

I had one done this morning and I won't lie to you it really stung going in but once it was in it was ok and the doctors and nurses are lovely. It's going to the toilet that feels really really stingy and uncomfortable like a bad urine infection but you have to remember you're having it done for a reason and it would be better to have a day of discomfort and get to the bottom of your problems you're having than refuse to have it done and wonder what's wrong and the urologists can't really help. That's what helped me through it, knowing that it would give answers to the urologist as honestly I was scared shitless myself.

I'm so scared beyond belief. I've barely slept for days, it's all I can think about 😩 feel like I'm going to break down when I enter the room.. I've honestly never felt so anxious in my life

I've never even had any symptoms in that area, just someone happened to see a little blob on my bladder during an unrelated ultrasound but no one actually told me, I went on a wild goose chase trying to find out why I'd been referred

I'll be amazed at myself if I actually pluck up the courage to attend

I wish you the best of luck, I hope they get to the bottom of what's going on with you.

I've had recurrent UTI's since having children and had to beg my GP to be seen by a urologist, I had a flexible cytoscopy on Thursday and they said there is nothing wrong and it all looks normal. I'm totally gutted and feel hopeless right now. It really hurt going in and felt like a sharp stinging pain, but when it was actually in was fine and felt like a smear or vaginal exam. The nurse held my hand and let me squeeze it as I winced at first and they were patient and lovely with me keeping me distracted. It lasted 2 minutes tops and for two days I had really sharp stinging when weeing, exactly the same feeling as a bad UTI but it's stopped since yesterday and I'm just getting my usual pain I was being investigated for. I can understand why you're scared but they are so lovely and reassuring and at least it will help to investigate what this blob is. Please keep us posted.

Aw thank you. Did you have a local anaesthetic gel put in first?

Yes, they used that and a lube on the camera to help make it easier.
Well it was bloody awful 😩 he didn't use any anaesthetic gel after the nurse even confirmed they do when I asked. And now I can't relax enough to pee cos it feels like there's razors coming out 😭 today can get in the bin!

My mum has. Think a lot of the discomfort comes from the patients pre existing conditions and also the consultant performing the procedure.

Aw no that sounds horrible! How are you feeling now? I hope the pain's died down. It took two days for my "razor blades pain" to stop.
