Hair growth tips... in tears after getting a bob

First world problem I know. But I cut off my lovely long hair tonight for a bob on a bit of a whim and after much encouragement from my other half who has been saying for years how I’d suit one... I reasoned that it’s just hair, it will grow back anyway... but I couldn’t regret it more, I’ve been crying all evening. Other half says it looks great, he loves it but I hate it so much and can’t believe I was so foolish. I’ve always had long hair. From looking online it can take 20 months to get back to the length I had it, which just set me off crying again, and has me desperate for a solution.

Does anyone have any tips on faster growth? Genuine, real accounts; so much of what I read online just seems to be thinly-veiled (and affiliate-linked!) sales pitches. Does Perfectil or other supplements work for faster growth? Do masks or oils help? I even read that tipping your head upside down and massaging the scalp helps. Or is waiting it out the only sure thing?

My daughters hair has grown loads since swapping her to Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner.
Doesn't make it grow faster but helps the condition, minimizes breakage and split ends etc which is about all you can do.
Other tips are healthy diet and sea kelp supplements.

My best tips are Perfectil and not getting it cut. I know it's the absolute opposite of the advice normally given, but if your priority is length over condition, don't cut it. Cutting it does not make it 'grow faster'.

Im sorry you are upset over your hair, men dont really understand do they? Could you try and put it into a small ponytail and then attach a clip on ponytail to it for now. It will come back and once its at shoulder length you will feel a lot better, that wont take long.

Give it a few days. You just need to get used to it. If you still don’t like it, try colour or mixing up the style by adding in layers etc - play around with it, experiment with it. It’s hair, it will grow back but stressing out about it isn’t going to help. If you already have a healthy diet then supplements like Perfectil won’t work, they only top your vitamin & mineral levels to a normal range so if you are already within that, you’ll just be taking a tablet for your body to flush it out because you don’t need it. Eat well, treat your hair well with good quality products and enjoy your new hair - I’m sure it looks awesome 😊 xx

I’ve been using Biotin as my hair was in bad condition as was breaking. Since using it’s grown faster (and thicker). Good luck

Oh no that’s such a shame you hate it!
You may find in the coming days you start to get used to just living with it. Everyone’s done it it’s okay to hate it!

could it be the way it’s been styled? Play around with some different finishes, curly/wavy/straight etc. (Just don’t over do it with the heat healthy hair will grow quicker!! )
I wouldn’t bother wasting your money on “hair growth vitamins” or “hair growth shampoos” this is coming from me a hairdresser.
A good diet, lots of water, a decent shampoo and conditioner to keep condition on top and aim to have a literal trim up in about 4 months (if you can) failing that..... hair extensions are a quick fix! Good luck x

Don't worry, it WILL grow back! I got mine cut a while ago as it was so long I couldn't do much with it and it just looked so untidy. I regretted it but everyone said it looked nice but i have a little roundish face lol and I suit waves/curls in my hair rather than it be just straight. im rubbish with hair too so all i could do with it when it was shorter was keep it straight and i hated it!! It didn't take long to grow again though. I used my hairdryer and straighteners as little as possible to keep from damaging it, I used main and tail shampoo, and also used one from Boots called '' Grow''.. Give it a few days, you just need to get used to it OP. I'm sure its really nice!

High strength biotin and also a scalp massage brush in the shower. It stimulates the blood flow which helps plus it removes the build up of products on the scalp.
My hairdresser said regular cuts stops the ends constantly breaking off too which helps with successful growth (even half an inch).
Good luck, but a lob is lovely and on trend x

I cut my hair into a bob after a post natal meltdown, it did not suit me at ALL. I hated it so much, however I did like it when it grew out to my shoulders a bit more. As above, lots of water and good diet, don’t cut it at all. My hair is now down to my bum 2.5 years later (not sure how long yours was before!) and has gone past the length it was. I’ve learned from my mistakes 😂 I’ve only had it trimmed slightly since to get rid of the dead ends. I’m sure you look fab though!! You may learn to love it.

You should try styling it a few different ways to see if it makes you like the cut a bit more! I didn't even have super long when I cut it into a bob and felt very shocked at first too but I've come to love it. It may even take a little bit of growing out for you to find your perfect bob length (more a lob maybe?)

As for advice - don't cut your hair. Its a myth that cutting your hair makes it 'grow faster'. It maintains the condition but if you want length try to take good care of it, don't use any heat when styling and just let it grow.

I can’t help with growing tips but I can help you with styling a bob! They can be quite tricky to get right but when you master it they can look absolutely beautiful. I went from long (ish) to jaw length and after the initial shock I bloody love it x

Ah no! Hating your new hair is the worst, we’ve all been there. The number of times I’ve regretted a fringe is mad 🤣 remember it’s just hair and will return! If you really hate it I’d go for extensions, just make sure you get them from somewhere reputable and don’t go too long! X

Argan oil and multivitamins. If you can grow it to just above your shoulders clip in hair extensions will blend nicely

Kerastase resistance range or Alfaparf scalp renew range are amazing!!!! I’ve lost all my hair due to chemotherapy. I have to tell myself every day it will grow back. Just remember you still have a Bob. I’m sure it looks lovely. We are in lockdown too so no one will see you as much 😘

Focus on getting your hair as healthy as possible, from inside AND out.

So... good diet, plenty of water, research vitamins or supplements that might help.

Exercise regularly, massage your scalp regularly, try and avoid stress (easier said than done at the mo!)

What hair type do you have? This will help you determine how best to treat it now, but some general tips:

- avoid wearing it up too much, it causes stress and breakage

- consider sleeping on a silk pillowcase or wrapping your hair in a silk scarf at night

- avoid heat tools, including hairdryer, as much as possible

- try to lengthen your time between washes. This doesn’t work well for people with problem scalps obviously, but if you can avoid washing your hair more than three times a week, do try it!

- consider cutting out sillicones completely and use sulphates sparingly. This has made a HUGE difference to my own hair - I started a year ago and the difference in how fast it grows is insane. It takes a bit of research to work this all out, but I do recommend for all hair types, especially anyone with thick, frizzy, textured, wavy or curly hair.

- invest in a good brush. This will depend on your hair type. Be careful never to overbrush you hair - do it just enough to detangle and stimulate your scalp, then stop (if you brush daily; not all hair types need to)

- DEEP CONDITION. With heat! Find a good deep conditioner, lay a towel on the radiator, put the deep conditioner on your freshly washed & wet hair, wrap your head in a shower cap or cling film, then wrap the now warm towel around your head. Leave it on for as long as the deep conditioner says to. Repeat regularly (every two weeks is a good rule of thumb)

- finally, you need to have realistic expectations. Your hair won’t grow overnight, no matter what you do, so try to make peace with how it looks right now, while also thinking about what you can do it help it along its journey.

GOOD LUCK (love from someone who once cut off their very long, flattering hair and absolutely hated it)
