My hair is gradually going grey. The texture has gone to tit. It has no dye in it, but feels like candy floss. This is a new experience for me, I used to have smooth hair. I have spent so much £££ on products to try and make it feel and look better but I am on the verge of just accepting it and using up all the products.

However I see people with lustrous looking grey/white hair, with good texture. So my final shot at getting a solution - what products do you use to keep your grey/white hair smooth, and with a bit of shine? Did you hair start out rough at the start but gradually the texture rights itself as the grey settles in?

I'm in the same boat! I've found if I just use a box dye at home it smooths my hair for a few weeks but as soon as I get regrowth it's kind of wiry and coarse again. I'd love to hear some recommendations as well.

I don’t use dye so I don’t get that temporary smoothness. It is like candy floss all the bloody time. I am hoping that some uk dyed grey/white haired people can give us some recommendations or tips.

Just us then, @MaineCoonMama

I wonder what part of the hair dye causes the smoothing? I have never dyed my hair, but I know people rave about the conditioner that comes with it. Do you think if you just used that it might do the smoothing?

I honestly don't know! It could well be, I wonder if a conditioner for dyed hair might work?

I dye, but don’t use the conditioner, never found the texture of my grey any different. I started going grey in my 20's

@L'oreal usually, sometimes Schwarzkopf. Im in Australia but these are global companies I'm sure.

@House of Tea this article might be a good place to start, I'm going to have a look and see if any look good.
I think if you are letting your hair go grey, or you are full on grey, the conditioners in that article would be ok. If you dye your hair I think they would do something to the colour, a lot of them have colour depositing going on. I don’t dye, my top layers are all my original colour, with a smattering of grey underneath, but the whole texture of all of it has changed. The conditioners in the article would not be right for me either. I am going to look at what exactly is in conditioners you get in hair dyes.

When you say you never found texture any different, do you mean that your hair has remained smooth?

I have very ashy blonde hair and I use the Redken Greydient shampoo and conditioner which is mentioned in that article - the shampoo has purple tones in and the conditioner does have some grey colour deposited in it. They leave my hair a really beautiful colour and take any yellow out so if you need your grey toned I would definitely recommend. They make my hair smooth and manageable too.

Have you had a little research into keratin/Brazilian blow dry treatments? That would give you the result in smoothness and shine that you were after.

I ordered Bouclème toning drops with my Olaplex yesterday. When I was reading the reviews a lot of people mentioned it helping them with growing out their natural grey hair. Maybe a mix of those with Olaplex No. 6? I also ordered Aveda blue malva which is meant to be good for grey.

label.m rejuvenating oil is good for dry/dull hair, and their protein spray is great for helping the texture. Can get good deals on Amazon. If you’re on a budget, ORS olive oil spray for shine.

My hair is naturally coarse and dull, but spending time blow drying to close the cuticles and sleeping in a satin bonnet makes the most difference.

Do you know any good blow drying videos? I think that is where I fall down. Thanks for the product recommendations. Not sure about the satin bonnet, sounds a bit Pride and Prejudice).

Well I have this gadget I got cheap off Amazon and it was in the cupboard until I watched this video last week:

My hair has been bouncy and smooth by pulling it upwards instead of just out. Brad has lots of helpful tips in his videos.

And don’t knock the bonnet til you’ve tried it 🤣 you look ridiculous but my hair is at least 50% smoother with one on. Some people use silk pillowcases but I prefer the satin cap 🌱

I have a Revlon brush thing that looks like that. I will take a look. The products you recommended, Label M, get good reviews, so they are on my list come payday.
