You mean the scammies 😂

Only tuned in for BTS which was one big fuck up

“, given the Grammys’ historically tenuous relationship with race. Since 1959, only 10 Black artists have won the Album of the Year award, while non-white artists are often relegated to genre-specific categories or tossed into the all-genre category as if to fulfill as diversity quota “ sums it up for me

Still not sure how Lady Gaga beat BTS for that award

When Dynamite was released, the song broke many records. Within 24 hours of its debut, the song had managed to cross over 100 million views on YouTube.

To add to this, it became the first K-Pop song to hit the top 5 on the Billboard Radio airplay chart. It was also on number 1 of Billboard’s top 100 songs.

So the fact it broke records isn’t good enough for an award
Although I agree BTS was snubbed overall, I think that it's about the "quality" of the song. And although I don't think ROM was brilliant by any means, I didn't enjoy Dynamite and thought it was quite basic in terms of construction? However, BTS's global impact can't be denied and I'm sad the academy continues to use them for clout whilst shutting them out of the major categories. They definitely deserved better.

Yeah I must admit it went on for ages. 2 hours in and they’d only given out 2 awards? I forgot it was an award ceremony at one point! I could tell they put BTS’s performance at the end to keep viewership high. It also doesn’t make sense that Say So was one of the biggest songs of the year and Doja went home empty handed. Same goes for The Weeknd not even receiving a nod! There definitely needs to be more transparency because it very much feels like it’s about who you’re in cahoots with and not what music you put out and how successful it is.

Ugh can't believe I missed this thread. Is it too late for me to give my two cents? 😂 Oh well I will anyway.

1. They need to announce more awards in the main show. Nearly 4 hours long for an awards show with about 5 awards announced? That's actually ridiculous. Especially when they pushed all the R&B categories to the pre-show. There was no need.

2. I thought the performances were pretty decent. Some standouts were Harry but I wish he's have done a medley with Golden, Adore You and TPWK, Taylor, Dua, Silk Sonic, Black Pumas, even Dababy's I was pretty impressed with because I went in with no expectations. Megan was great but I despise Cardi and think she was utterly shite as always. I wish Doja would've done a medley too.

3. So happy that Harry won something but I wish it would've been for Fine Line as an album rather than Watermelon Sugar. I was expecting pop solo to go to Cardigan or Don't Start Now. I'm so happy that Dua and Taylor won for their albums though as they were my favourites of 2020 too. Exile should've won over Rain On Me.

4. I think Say So should've won over Savage in a couple of the categories and I'm not sure Billie should've won for ROTY but she seems a lovely and deserving person. Chloe x Halle were also robbed in their categories.

5. Sad that Phoebe didn't win anything but Fiona Apple is a queen and had one of the best albums I've ever heard last year so no compaints with her wins from me. Also love that The Strokes won something too even though The New Abnormal isn't my favourite album of theirs.

6. If Jack Antonoff proposed to me right now, I would say yes.

Also gutted HAIM didn’t win AOTY. Perhaps I will have to give Taylor’s latest albums a go...
Folklore and Evermore are absolute masterpieces. They've fully converted me from a casual Taylor listener to a stan. You have to listen to them!! I'm sure you've already heard the Haim feature on Evermore

Agreed! Them using BTS for clout and giving them the bare minimum performance slot at the very end was more disappointing than not winning the category. Dynamite is a bop but I would have loved some of their other amazing discography to be recognised too.

That said, the category is best group "performance" so the success of the song coupled with the 30+ different performances they've done of it is more than enough to justify the win imo!

At the end of the day they don't need the validation but since it's always been a personal goal of theirs I hope they can get a main category nomination and win next year 💗

They definitely pick and choose when to define success by charts/sales and when to define it by the actual quality of music. I love Billie but she’s a case in point; Bad Guy won everything last year because it was big in terms of sales and charts and exposure, yet this year everything i wanted won more so because it’s a beautifully crafted song. I’d argue that if last year’s reasoning was adopted (not that I’d want it to be, I’d much prefer music to be assessed by its quality rather than quantity of sales and streams) it should have gone to Say So or Savage instead. There’s always going to be people that are left out, but I’d love the process and reasoning to be more transparent because The Weeknd’s success last year cannot be denied, and Mac Miller’s Circles is another near-perfect album that was ignored completely.

I can imagine they avoided giving Say So a win because of Dr Luke's association with the song.
I think the initial point of the Grammys was to reward people with critical acclaim, which is why in AOTY particularly there are some smaller nominees - HAIM, Jhene Aiko, Jacob Collier etc and not less who pulled in the big sales. However, The Weeknd should absolutely have been nominated and I think the Recording Academy definitely needs to be more transparent with its process and how they pick people.

Gutted Phoebe has missed out! Also shocked Harry won in Pop solo, I thought he was less likely then Dua, Taylor or Billie.

Really excited for all of the performances! I'm happy Megan, Brittany, Thundercat and Gaga have already won and I'm hoping for a HAIM win for AOTY.
Yes Thundercat is so deserving, It Is What It Is is such a good album! I’d love HAIM to win too but I have a strange feeling that Dua Lipa is going to clear up tonight. I’m quite surprised that Phoebe Bridgers has been snubbed so far, she’s still up for best new artist but I’d prefer that to go to Megan or Doja I think.

I tried watching the WAP performance on Youtube to see what the fuss was about and got to the 30 second mark before I needed to vomit and take a long shower.

What a pair of crotch scratching skanks.

Thought I’d set up a thread for anyone else following this year’s Grammys. Does anyone have any predictions? What are your thoughts on the pre-ceremony awards so far? I’m quite surprised so many anticipated categories (R&B, rap, pop duo/group performance) weren’t part of the main event. I’m looking forward to all of the performances!
