Pomodoro Technique

Each ‘pomodoro’ is 25 minutes long so you work for 25 minutes then take a 5 min break

Repeat for about about 4 pomodoros then take a 15-20 break

The idea behind it is you’re effectively working to a 25 minute deadline so become more productive but it is SO important to take the 5 minute break, so easy to just work through but without the technique I always felt sluggish and started to drift/procrastinate working for hours on end

The 5 minute break can be a toilet break/walk or quickly make a tea

You can set a timer on your phone or there is apps you can use!
My favourite website that I've found for this is: https://pomofocus.io/

You can track your to do list as you go and it predicts how long your tasks will take, if that kind of thing works for you!

I agree - lists! Everytime I write a list out i feel motivated to complete it and it is so satisfying ticking off things from the list too

I’m with you. I work so well when I’m busy or under pressure. If I don’t have lots to do or am not working to a deadline I just can’t get motivated to even start.
Please let me know if any solution works for you. I feel like I’ve tried it all at this point!

depending on the task at hand.. my biggest thing is not to sit down.

hear me out... if I have housework to do or errands to run, I need to get up and do it. I can’t sit on the sofa and quickly catch up with last nights programme first or anything. Otherwise that’s me for the day, and if it passes lunch time then I’ll consider it too late to be done (in my head). So get up, get tit done- it never takes as long as I think it will- then I have the rest of the day to sit on my a if I want to!

I went on a training course once. It was all about eating your biggest frog first.

ie- that dissertation you have to write, the meeting you have to plan for, the admin that’s built up for months, all easily bypassed to do something such as rearrange your sock draw.

by doing the big thing first(the frog), it frees up your mind rather than putting it off for Ages, but always thinking of it.

helps me.
I’ve kept this idea in mind today, and it’s been really helpful!
With adhd this kind of getting mit done thing is hard, but just saying to myself “right, find and eat the biggest frog” did work!
So, thank you!

Agree with lists!

something that also helps me when I’m having a bad day is asking myself ‘will it take more than 60 seconds’ and if it doesn’t, just do it. I’m really bad for putting things off until the last minute - especially taking the bins out - so I get a lot done when I ask myself thus

The most amazing book I've ever read to help me on this... Eat that Frog! Would completely recommend it, its only short too 😊 let me know if anyone reads it and what you think
It’s 99p on the kindle at the moment, so I might have to check it out!

Eat the frog for me too. Even if its only 1 frog a week. This week's frog is to phone and check something on my pension. Been putting it off ages.

I find eating the frog helpful too. Honestly, I could procrastinate for England and if I have a big deadline or big piece of work, my house will never be so clean as I’ll find a million things to do rather than the task at hand. I have to make myself do the biggest, messiest, most complicated thing first and then that gives me the headspace to think about the small stuff. I can’t let myself think I’m being productive by doing the easy jobs first as I know I’m just using them as a way of procrastinating.
