With the sentencing for the Southport killer today, I’ve been thinking again about the injustice of hate crimes and aggravating factors in relation to VAWG.
Brianna Ghey’s killers had transphobia as an aggravating factor - this increased their sentencing.
Rudakabana had no aggravating factor for his violence against women and girls. (He did for their age but not their sex).
It’s been repeated he had no particular political or religious ideology and that he had previously intended to go to a school until he was stopped on the day. He was clearly a sick, violent male intending to mass murder and no clear history it was solely around women and girls - just very violent in nature.
However Ghey’s killers had no particular intent to target a trans identified person and had actually drawn up a list of other male victims. Ghey wasn’t even the first choice, having been ignored by another boy before they contacted Ghey.
I just feel such an injustice to these young girls and the two women that it’s not being recognised for what it is. Leanne, the dance instructor stabbed 5 times, recognised it in her victim statement.
He targeted us because we were women and girls, vulnerable and easy prey. To discover that he had always set out to hurt the vulnerable is beyond comprehensible. For Alice, Elsie, Bebe, Heidi and the surviving girls, I’m surviving for you.

100%. A friend was telling me about her daughter's group of high school friends, all girls. They all iDeNtIfY as "something" and when she questioned her on it, the daughter's response was that you "HAVE TO, anyone who doesn't is weird and gets left out". Makes me so sad for them, in my highschool days it was just whether we liked Blur or OasisSocial contagion
I felt intimidated by men on my river walk this morning because I was on my own as they passed by me on their own. It’s not their fault, and they didn’t do anything wrong, but there are times I become acutely aware that I’m vulnerable and men as a class are a threat. It almost feels like I’m playing a game of Russian roulette. These ones today were the blank rounds

If I was him, that debate would keep me awake at night for the rest of my life. I am so embarassed for him.
He could not produce a single argument in support of his position, stuttered like a moron and resorted to the usual thought-terminating clichés to zero effect.
The fact she's a Northern lass setting some posh fanny right brings me great joy too.
The absolute arrogance of men like him defining what constitutes a woman and who should be allowed to use women's spaces makes me incandescent, but he showed himself up sufficiently to take the edge off my burning rage.

My sister is a BA pilot. She worked SO hard to get all her qualifications and licenses alongside working a full time job to pay for it. She completed her training at the top of every class. Not showing off, its just a fact. She was promoted to captain with the minimum required flight hours, ahead of others with more on their books, and she is a) repeatedly told that she's only where she is because she's a woman and "because of DEI" and b) dealing with male superiority on the daily. This claim by BA that this MAN is the most senior woman pilot is an insult to every single female pilot at that airline who has to work twice as hard to prove themselves only to be undermined by their male colleagues at every opportunity.Is that why Trump has been banging on about "diversity hiring"? I assume that he would have known about the TIM pilot long before us.
That "Most senior woman pilot" though...ffs, it's gaslighting on an industrial scale, with employment records being changed to make it look like this transvestite is some kind of female pioneer in the aviation industry. Do they really think that actual women are ok with this? And the world looks on and wonders why someone like Trump gets elected
Or just supporting British gay people who live in communities where being gay is still very frowned upon, if not actually dangerous.
Muslim, Traveller, frummer Jewish communities, some Evangelical Black communities....all UK communities where being gay or lesbian could get you kicked out, shunned, harmed or subjected to 'conversion' therapies.
It's not talked about enough. Gay folks in these communities need genuine support. The fact that Stonewall still ignores them just demonstrates that they're in it for the coin and not for the hard, lengthy and often thankless work of actually helping people who need it.

I had to step away from the Sandie Peggie tribunal evidence today because I was becoming enraged and absolutely fuming about Upton's barrister's outrageous line of questioning. And I'm extremely disappointed that the tribunal judge allowed the barrister to question Sandie Peggie on her husband's facebook and posts. Even if Sandi was racist and bigoted (and there is zero evidence to suggest that she is), as a woman she is still entitled to the safety, privacy and dignity of a single sex space where she can change her clothes and period products without the presence of a man.
The barrister's whole cross-exam was misogynistic and designed to harass and intimidate Sandie. I mean, of course a woman is responsible and accountable for her husband's views. And how dare the female nurse upset the poor, delicate man's feelings by being uncomfortable with his presence in the female changing room. And how awful for her to cause distress to the poor, delicate man by referring to him factually a man. And how dare she claim to be intimidated by the man's presence when he hasn't actually sexually assaulted her? And even worse, how dare she intimidate him by stating her objections to his presence in a calm manner. What a witch!
The whole thing would be farcical if it wasn't for the fact that this is happening in the real world, and a previously well-regarded nurse was suspended because she was uncomfortable sharing a changing room with a man. No wonder many women keep quiet about these matters if this is the price you have to pay. I can't imagine how stressful this has been for Sandie. And it's shocking that her harassment is being continued in the court room. If only she'd done the womanly thing and submitted to the feelings and wishes of a man.
I'm beyond furious with the way this barrister treated Sandie today. It's chilling and distressing in equal measure. I hope that Naomi is able to really push back on the barrister's ridiculous assertions tomorrow. And I hope she points out that Upton's barrister misgendered Upton herself on a number of occasions.

We've been sent an email from our CEO, detailing how the organisation is going to be celebrating "Trans history month".
Along with supporting our "trans and non-binary colleagues", we're also asked to consider wearing a new shiny badge, which depicts the LGBTQIA+++ flag in all its glory. The funds for the badge were provided by our charity arm.
To say that I'm pissed off would be an understatement. I honestly don't care who wants to wear a badge, if it makes them feel good, then so what? Personally, as I've said here before, I treat all of my patients, and their families, with dignity and respect, I honestly don't care about their sex life, their gender identity, or owt else. (Although as my patients are either pregnant, or have recently given birth, I can absolutely guarantee that they're all women, no matter how they identify
)
But when I think about how I have to see my women and babies in what is essentially a spare cupboard, because they won't pay for enough clinical rooms for us, or about how we have to ask women to travel for miles to be seen because they won't pay for IT upgrades to enable us to work at a local clinic, or how women who are bleeding, in pain, or are worried that their baby isn't moving, can't get through on the phone because we only have one phone line into the emergency area, then I do wonder how come the money always manages to be found for pointless, performative crap like this? My organisation employs literally thousands of people, but yay! We all have a nice shiny trinket to show how compassionate we are towards transvestites!

I've just been reading a thread of pompous navel-gazing men on Reddit discussing the semantics of terrorism and saying Rudakubana isn't a terrorist because he wasn't attached to a particular ideology and "nobody knows the motive". One person - one - in a thread of hundreds of replies suggested that it wasn't random that he specifically targeted a group of little girls, but they're all too busy defining terrorism and blowing smoke up each other's arses to consider that women and girls might in fact be a distinct group of human beings specifically attacked because of their sex.

Sandie calmly and sensibly raised the issue that she didnt feel comfortable at having a man in the female changing rooms. She was then asked to raise the issue with a senior member of staff, which she did. She had been a staff nurse at the hospital for years, Dr U had only arrived relatively recently and was training.
Dr U is senior because he is a doctor, and she is a staff nurse. But the situation isnt in balance because she has years of experience to call upon. So when he comes to question her about why a child and parents have gone home without seeing the doctor, she is probably a bit fed up at having her judgement and experience questioned, so is a bit short with him!
Dr U is on his own admittance avoidant of others in the changing room as he turns to the wall to change, so if he is worried, why cant he accept anyone else might be? At the slightest issue, Dr U runs to other members of staff for support, who was supporting Sandie?
He started a grievance proceedure against her. He took a lot of time off work because of stress. ( which makes me wonder, how on earth does he cope with a stressful job such as an A & E junior?) Then He also literally fine tooth combed the rule book to find things to throw against her, and to destroy her career.
This isnt just a case about a trans doctor, its a case about a junior doctor, with limited experience trying to destroy the career of an experienced staff nurse. Poor Sandie.

I was at an event in work yesterday and part of it was focussed on adolescent mental health and many people commented that children have it far harder these days with pressure generally from online sources but we need to give our heads a shake. 100 years ago you had children that had lost fathers in WW1 and many others with fathers returning that had seen no end of horrors. Not long after was another war with bombing on the home front too. The UK had significant rates of grinding poverty so, in rich countries, most of us live in a golden age. The fact that so much energy is being expended on these fragile individuals who want to be called something they are not is disgusting and insulting.

When you go to a nightclub you see big burly men on the door. Those men can just stand there and intimidate everyone by virtue of the fact that they look like they could rough you up.
Nightclubs don't employ many weedy looking females to do these jobs do they?
