There was a fascinating article on X recently about how a woman's immune system has to work hard to accept the "foreign body" of a developing foetus, even when that foetus contains 50% of it's mother's DNA. Her immune system response is dampened down to accommodate the baby, which is why pregnant women can be more susceptible to colds, stomach bugs etc.
When a woman carries a baby which is not genetically related to her, the immune system has to work even harder to allow her body to "accept" the foetus, which is one of the reasons that surrogate pregnancies tend to have more complications. (Similar for certain IVF pregnancies.) A woman is not just a "womb" or a "carrier", we are not just luggage, or receptacles, or gestators. Growing and delivering a baby is a symbiotic relationship, with immense pressures brought upon the mother's body and mind.
I will never agree with surrogacy, I don't care if it's for your sister, your best friend from childhood, or if it's just to "help others". It's wrong on every level, and yet another example of women's autonomy taken away from them for the supposed greater good.

The last thread saw the (genuinely) stunning and brave Darlington nurses win their tribunal against their NHS trust, the ruling finding that they had been harassed for daring to speak out against a man being allowed to use the female only changing rooms in their hospital.

Ladies, we salute you and your bravery and thank you for daring to speak out against the rampant misogyny of the trans movement, when it would probably have been 'easier' to suffer in silence. Because of your bravery, many more women and girls will now have the confidence to speak up.

Colman really has made a banana of herself, hasn’t she? It’s like the escalation of all the cool girls twenty years ago “all my friends are gay! My best friend is gay!”. now that’s not cool enough any more, any suburban dullard can say that - she has to elevenrife it by being her own gay best friend. CAMHS is completely captured. My youngest had some mental health problems last year which I really hope we’re past. I made the mistake of trying to find a private counsellor, thinking it would be better than waiting an age for CAMHS. One was ineffectual and totally inexperienced and one was outright dangerous. The things she used to say were quite outrageous but I was so desperate at the time I think I would have listened to Kermit the frog if he’d have set himself up as a teen therapist.
We had ‘oh it’s you, what’s your name again?’ ‘I can give you a letter to say you have ADHD which gives you a reduced timetable’ (within first two minutes of meeting), ‘oh god, don’t start crying again’ and, my personal favourite, ‘it seems to me like you could be questioning your gender identity’ when my child said school was a nightmare.
When we finally got an appointment with CAMHS the assessor refused to take it further unless we both wore a sticker with our pronouns for the meeting. I despair at the state of the world sometimes.

Women not being signposted to help and support after miscarriage because a charity’s woke social media team doesn’t like being told that birthing people is an offensive term. So to spite the women for wrongthink, they’re denied support. Shades of Mridul Wadwha telling rape victims to reframe their trauma if they object to a male rape counsellor

Also today we had Matthew Syed on Radio 4 doing a whole 30 minute sympathetic piece on a 50 year old gay British man who bought a baby in America.

Any mention of the baby’s needs? Or the risk to the mother? Or whether it’s morally appropriate for a 50 year old single person to buy a baby and traffic it into the uk? Of course not. This is the bbc.

I find Olivia Coleman’s stupid statement offensive, in that it perpetuates a viewpoint that women should have to look and behave in a certain stereotypical way to actually be real women, and any woman who isn’t feminine is “non binary” ( whatever that is? I honestly don’t get these identity terms) or trans. It’s all just so fucking regressive. We don’t have to be feminine, dress a certain way, wear make up or any of the other stereotypical stuff that seems to be how they define woman nowadays.

In a weird parallel universe world I have just seen a prostate cancer advert for MEN voiced by David Tennant - and he didn’t add in brackets that some women also own a prostate: his beliefs are all for sale. If anyone else sees it can you confirm it’s his voice - it’s the one with the kids in.

It is actually quite indicative of a trend. My friend, who is a middle aged gay man (I’m so COOL), was given the bums rush from his workplace LGBT network because a) he’s a massive terf but also b) because the people running it are 25 year old Olivia Colman types and they have ZERO insight into or interest in the concerns of middle aged gay men like my pal. They have no understanding of the actual real struggles of growing up gay in a small town in the 80s as he did, or the impact of the early years of HIV infection and AIDS, or the context and debates that went on around equal marriage rights. All they want to do is organise drag nights and make sure everyone pops their pronouns in their email signatures.

So yeah, Olivia and the like can happily trill “I’m basically a gay man”, and everyone will clap along, blind to their violation of their own fucking principles of “don’t appropriate other peoples experience or speak for them”. Because they make up the rules as they go along, while making sure to exclude the inconvenient opinions of those they’re theoretically stanning for, but actually find a bit icky.
