It still kinda blows my mind how so many leftwing activists are so pro women's rights, gay rights, disability rights etc right up until someone points out how those causes clash with trans rights, then it's all 'well you're just wrong but I can't tell you why, educate yourself bigot.' The cognitive dissonance required to convince themselves that trans rights can coexist peacefully with any of those others must be immense. That's what stopped me from ever being fully on board, except perhaps at the very beginning of trans advocacy when I knew almost nothing about them and just took it at face value that they were no different to LGB people.
It's all just so silly it's almost funny once the scales - the fear being on the wrong side of history - fall from your eyes.
Whoo, gay rights! Love is love! Be proud of who you are! But also, if you don't unlearn your bigoted genital preference, you're just as bad as your oppressors! Ignore that up until a decade ago most gender nonconforming children were just gay or bi. You need to support them in becoming gender conforming straight members of the opposite sex, otherwise you're the worst kind of traitor, betraying the most vulnerable members of your own community! Don't you know all gay people owe their rights to the brave black transwomen who threw the first brick at Stonewall? How dare you ask me to provide sources! Go find them yourself, and when you do, completely ignore that those brave transwomen never self ID'd as anything other than gay drag queens, and in their own words and the testimony of their friends, weren't even there when the riot began.
Stand up for women's rights! Fight back against misogyny! Call out rape culture! Listen to women! But also, if you even suggest that there just might be a few unscrupulous men who could use self ID to make female spaces unsafe, well that's a slippery slope to fascism my friend. All transwomen are valid and cannot ever be questioned, no matter how many red flags they're waving. Oh and transmen exist too I guess. And it's fine for them to remain in female spaces and keep calling themselves lesbians, and if you think that doesn't make any sense if they're really men you need to eDuCaTe YoURsElf. And also men are a huge threat to transwomen so they can't possibly use men's toilets, but transwomen are an imaginary threat to women in women's toilets, because they are women duh, even if they haven't had anything done and still look exactly the same as any other man.
Believe in science when it comes to vaccines, climate change and abortion. Completely ignore science when it doesn't say what we want it to about transwomen in women's sport and gender affirming surgery outcomes.
Advocate for mentally ill and neurodiverse people! But also support the mass sterilization of those groups with zero safety net procedures to make sure they actually fully understand and can consent.
Also being trans isn't a mental illness, how dare you even suggest that, bigot! But also, we'll kill ourselves if we don't get free gender affirming healthcare.
