I know I could go elsewhere and ask for advice but these forums seem more active than others!!

I have a gas range master and I’ve noticed in the last week that the front left hob ring which I use all the time is not igniting. I can hear the gas, but no spark. However! When I turn the other dials for the other rings, i can see it sparking. So I tried to turn its dial and another ring’s dial at the same time and it lit but nearly blew my face off!! And the flame seemed different to what it used to be 😕 I quickly put my pan on it, but it went out.

Embarrassingly, it’s never been serviced in the 3 years I’ve lived here and the previous owners put it in new 3 years before I moved in, so it’s about 6 years old.

I tried calling range master, but they are closed (obviously 😣) and I’ve given it a clean around the ring incase any crap was in the way, but, at a guess, I’m assuming it’s something to do with the dial not connecting to something to ignite it?

Any help would be great! Annoyingly, I had a gas engineer here the other day to do something for me, but i didn’t think it would be a continuous problem with my hob.

It might be bloked? Try lightong with long match while holding down the gas.
You might need two of you

Oh no 😖I live on my own. I tried to see if there was any blockages but I couldn’t see that the two prongs (my technical term) around the ring had any kind of hole on the top of them to be blocked? Do I aim the lit match at where the spark should be coming from?

Well i do just where the gas comescome out

But mayb dont do it alone....im worriwd after sending that i could be wrong and telling you to do something dangerous.

Just one of mine doesnt light but can hear gas coming out. And have managed to light with a match before

Maybe use another hob ring for tonight?

@Peanut99 😀 yep don’t worry I used a different ring. I’m worried I’ve maybe worn out the knob on my usual ring as it doesn’t even click to spark 😤 I’ll have a look again tomorrow otherwise I’ll keep faffing and my food will get cold.
